Default Fake Police Officer actually a real Police Officer

This is the weirdest story.

Why is a CPS member, (off duty? on duty plain clothes?), approaching strange kids in Okotoks and offering them rides home?

-------------------
Okotoks RCMP have determined a stranger who approached a child in a residential area to offer her a ride home was actually a police officer with “good intentions.”

Mounties say around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, the woman drove up to an 11-year-old girl near Clark Street and Wilson Avenue.

“She approached the girl who was walking home. She asked if she could give her a ride and showed her a badge,” said Sgt. Sukh Randhawa, adding the woman was not in uniform and her vehicle did not have any kind of law enforcement insignia.

The girl declined the ride and went home to tell her parents what happened, Randhawa said, adding she was unharmed.

Randhawa said Mounties were initially suspicious the woman was posing as an officer, but later identified her as a member of the Calgary Police Service.

He said he’s still trying to determine why the woman approached the girl, but concluded “there’s nothing suspicious about (the incident).”

He said RCMP had been concerned as there have been at least two incidents of people in the community posing as officers in the past.

No good deed goes uninvestigated by Police.

In another story,

"man from unmarked van, offering free candy to children, actually just a candy store owner offering free samples"

Definitely not something an off duty officer should be doing. Not sure how this is a good deed.

Kid did the right thing though. that's got to make the parents feel good. Never know when an off duty pedophile is looking to go on duty.

She sure did, it never ends well when the cops give you a ride.

One time when I was a teenager the cops gave me and a couple friends a ride home from a party. They were just being good guys who wanted to make sure we got home safe, and didn't want us to walk as it was winter. We weren't in trouble or anything, but try explaining that to my mother... She flipped $hi7 and didn't believe I wasn't in trouble. Kinda funny now that I think about it, not so funny at the time

Hopefully she learns from this and doesn't do it again. Just seems like someone trying to do something nice but going about it in a wrong and inappropriate way.
