Should be a fair deal if he can keep up his play.

Good deal I would say. He's a starter, and he's getting paid starter money.

I think this is a great deal. To put it in perspective for Flames fans Holtby is only a year and and a half older than Ortio.

well, I think he did step his gameplay up to the company of those goalies. I think that's fair market value (besides lol-Ward)
Mason is the next goalie I can see moving into this elite tender company.

If Holtby continues to be the player that he appears to be, this is a good signing.

Fleury has a Cup too and I'm sure no one wants him. Maybe Ward just needs a change of scenery but right now he is atrocious value.

Holtby signs for 6.1 and I'm willing to bet Jooris scores more than he does for less than a million. Too bad Sweeny isn't the GM of the caps right now....

I would take Fleury over Ramo or Hiller. He had a great year last year. Their defense was decimated in the playoffs.

I was talking about compared to the other goalies listed. Point was a Cup isn't really the gold standard for a quality goalie. Niemi and Crawford have Cups. Does that make them better than Kipper?
And you'd really want Fleury for the next 4 years at close to 6 million? Yikes.

You said no one wants him, which I respectfully disagree with. I agree winning a cup doesn't isn't a gold standard to evaluate goalies, never said it was. Point is Fleury is still a really good goalie.
Fleury at 6 > Ramo and Hiller at 8

This is a good deal for a bonafide #1. If Flames could get to this position, I would be happy. Pay $1 million for backup.

That's fine as long as Ortio is ready to be full time starter next year. If Ortio is not ready then i would rather have Fleury for 4 years over 1b goalies Hiller and Ramo. Gillies is going to need 3-4 years until he is our starter.
As for Holtby signing i think its a good deal for both sides.
