McDonald should be the favourite to be the starter for the WJC team.
It is his spot to lose.

Hickey and Walman are the only NCAA players.
Interesting too that Walman was invited to the USA camp as well.

Are there NCAA restrictions for a national program covering your expenses for their camps? I would assume no since it's not pro ... but the NCAA is a piece of ####, so who knows.

was just thinking this, but since it is obviously ok to have their expenses coveted during the tourny, this should be fine. still makes no sense however

Hickey had a great season so it's not surprising.
Really underrated as a Flames prospect IMO.

Was he really that underrated? I was under the impression he improved at a level way higher than we thought possible?
Either way, glad he's ours

what is the age cut off for the U20 team?
I was wondering if Hunter Smith was eligible and got turned down or just didn't merit the invite.
With his Sept 11 , 1995 birthdate Smith was eligible for the 2013 draft and nobody thought he was worth a 7th round pick. A year later he goes #54 overall.
What a crap shoot drafting 17 year olds.

If you turn 20 during the "year" of the tournament (or later), you can play in it.
Next year's is the 2016 tournament, so only players with 1996 and later birthdates are eligible.

Hockey Canada probably doesn't want to bother. He's an NHL'er next year for sure, and if he's somehow available, they're taking him on the team.

Well true they recently did offer a Canadian post secondary institute a spot in div 3. They stupidly ####ing rejected it because their ego got in the way and wanted a higher division birth if they joined. Ncaa laughed at them and instantly pulled the offer off the table.

I don't really think it was a bad thing for UBC to reject the NCAA's offer. The costs for UBC would have skyrocketed with no tangible benefit.
But that's a discussion for another thread.

Camp is coming up this week.
Slight change to the roster. Jake Walman accepted the invite to the US team over Canada so Thomas Chabot was given his spot.
Likely helps solidfy Hickey's chances.
