Winnipeg is No Good
The Jets have the brightest future out of any of the Canadian teams.
I hate saying that. I want us to have the brightest future out of any of the Canadian teams.
Edmonton is no good - they won't be competing with us any time soon.
Vancouver...
That leaves our prominent western rival to be the Jets. The honeymoon period is over.
Winnipeg is No Good.

Why do the Jets have the brightest future? I cant say I follow them all that closely, but our future isnt exactly horrible.
What makes the Jets better?

They made the playoffs so they're some good, not no good.

Our team was better last season, and we should be improved next season.
Thus IMO our future looks the brightest.

Winnipeg is pretty "meh" to me. I have zero reason to hate them. They're one of three Canadian teams I would actually like to see have some success. Calgary (obviously) and Ottawa being the other two.

Honeymoon period? If this was the honeymoon I'm worried to see what the rivalry will look like.

But all of the guys they have - their prospect depth is off the charts.
I can see us as Cup contenders in 2-3 years.
I see the Jets in 2, tops.

I don't think the Jets' future is nearly as bright as portrayed by the media, and the general hockey world. It's not that they're bad. In fact I would say the thread title is wrong. They are "good." But just good. I just can't get hyped about Ladd-Little-Wheeler, Enstrom-Myers today. They get a lot of credit for having prospects who are TSN darlings and World junior superstars.

Excellent point. They're a solid team but theres no game-breaker to take them over the top.

I kind of like Winnipeg to be honest.
I wouldn't place them in the Edmonton and Vancouver 'no good' category.
A rivalry can't be created. It will arise through the years... and I don't see it happening with the Jets.

Winnipeg has been building for a little longer than we have, so that's why their future may be a little brighter. But that being said, I think we have just as good, if not better, pieces to build around. Not sure I'm enough of a fan of the Jets' core to proclaim them better long term.
I will say this, there will never be the rivalry between us and the Jets along the same lines as Edmonton or Vancouver, mostly because they play in a different division. However, I expect these two teams to be around the same level this year, and it could mean direct competition for playoff position, or simply getting into the playoffs. That should build some rivalry between these two teams, not to mention the Western Canada rivalry factor.

I think being in their division would catapult it.
I agree, from what I understand both fan basses like each others team. We cheered for each other in the playoffs.

Seriously people, between him and McDavid, this is a hockey forum not a Twilight convention, stop slobbering all over the children.

Winnipeg is not a rival team so I have no distaste for them. Also their fans are mostly level headed and actually know hockey.
This thread isn't necessary or deserved.

Winni is still too much of a 'feel good' story for me to have any hate for them. If I can't hate them, then there isn't a real rivalry.
They're not no good. They're not good. They're OK.

You seriously think a kid that hasn't made it to the NHL yet can lead them to the promised land in 2 years?
Good luck with that.
The Jets have some good young prospects. But right now, there team is built around the vets on the top line.
They have a significant transitional phase ahead of them before they become contenders IMO.

Poll insinuates at least one of the options is a correct answer. I object and abstain from voting.
