Don't see him getting into more than a handful of games this year with our improving young players and growing depth. He has a lot of heart though and that might help create more competition in camp, perhaps spurring other players along. Hard to complain about a 1 year, 900k contract for a serviceable player.
Good for Byron. I feel for this guy though. He finally got a chance to prove himself and start playing in the NHL, then here's comes the injury. Now he'll have a tough time making the lineup this coming season with so many competitions. I hope he's 100% healthy again.

I think it was a Flames mod on HF who said that he wanted either Byron or Jooris as the 2L this year, so there is that, but…
You just need to find a way to squeeze in Ferland(79) and Shore(22) somewhere in there, which is a good problem to have. Aside from that, good signing! I just hope Byron's practices include breakaways everyday.
Glad to see him signed. He's a good team mate to have. He pushes hard himself but also makes others have to push as well. Plays with a lot of heart and lays it out there every shift.
I have a feeling last year he's been snake bitten. Hope/think he'll have better luck this year.

One way deals don't matter unless you are concerned with the flames cash flow. The cap hit for Byron if he is in the AHL is negligable. We still have 3 contract spots available after RFAs are signed. And once we qualified him he couldn't walk away anyway
This deal does not affect the future of the flames in any way and is a could utility guy that doesn't hurt you in the line up.
Good signing.

Byron is a great utility player who can move in and out of the line-up. And he plays like a big man so his size hasn't been a big concern. Remember he did take out Shea Weber..
I like the philosophy of not losing assets with value, even if it's not a lot of value. He can be traded at the deadline and even if it's for a 5th round pick that's still better than not re-signing. Or if having Byron on the team helps free up a package trade deal than it still works out.
Worth keeping him for this alone!

Byron is an impact 4th line player on this team. His speed is legitimately disorienting and I believe his play has a big impact on the rest of the team.
Remember this shift vs SJ? Leads to the beautiful Hudler/Brodie goal.
