Calgarypuck International Fan Mail Club
So this may seem a little old school, but it's summertime and I figure there's no harm in spitballing a few ideas...
One of the cool things about CP is how people from literally around the world can be such hardcore Flames fans... across Canada, US, Europe, Asia. The list includes some really good forum members, especially those who report Flames news from other cities (i.e. past/present AHL affiliates), not to mention other countries (often translating news and info that we wouldn't get here locally).
I'm fortunate enough to be in the heart of the C of Red (born and raised in Calgary, live/work minutes from the Saddledome), which makes it pretty easy to be a fan, get tickets to games, etc.
Here's my proposal: if anyone is interested, I was thinking of organizing a "mail club", like they used to have way back when. Basically, for a small fee to cover the cost of shipping, I can collect and send out any Flames swag that I might be able to accumulate over the course of the season. It could include freebies (like pocket schedules and other stuff they might hand out at games and at other places), the annual yearbook, and other small, relatively inexpensive things that could be shipped out without costing an arm and a leg. Depending on numbers (I was thinking ~20 would be manageable), I could even try contacting the team to see if they would contribute something to their national/international fan base.
Now, I appreciate not everyone wants a Flames pocket schedule or a local magazine with Flames info, but for those who like that kind of stuff I think it would be a neat way to connect and share with other Flames fans across the globe.
Anyways, just wanted to gauge interest (if any); no need to commit or send money until we figure out numbers and what kind of stuff would be good to include. I would also welcome any comments or feedback as well. Thanks for the read

That's a really cool idea and I'd totally be up for it! I've already had a cp member send me car flags.

That's a great idea. I'm in the UK and would be totally on board for this. CP does a great job of keeping the international fans connected but this would be icing on the cake!

I bet a lot of Calgary based CP members have old Flames stuff in their basement they'd donate. Perhaps there should be 2 signups, one for people willing to send stuff, and one for those who want to receive?

+1 from this UK buddy as well.
CP already came through for me sending over a car flag during the playoffs, which was flown with pride

tvp that's a great idea. I don't need any of the little things, but it would be good to have a resource available to send me certain items from, say, the Flames store that would take forever to get down here. Perhaps you can set up a paypal or something similar to take the odd order now and then.

I'd be curious to know how many of the international fans are true international versus Canadians who moved away for work.

Cool! I'll help you with this if you like. I live in Victoria, but wouldn't mind contributing to our over seas members swag stash! After living in Australia for many years I understand the want/need for Flames Swag!

Would this be different from the current CalgaryPuck International Male Club that Slava hosts?

I think this is a cool idea. I thought sending the the Car Flags overseas during the playoffs was awesome!

Cool. Keep the requests coming! I'll start compiling a list and will be keeping my eyes out for free/inexpensive things to send, especially when the season begins. Also open to suggestions!
I also agree that "Operation Flames Car Flags" was pretty awesome -- thanks to whoever organized that. I foresee version 2.0 might need to happen before next year's playoffs

Sure -- in addition to one-off requests, if there is something that comes up where multiple people are interested (like car flags) we can definitely try to organize a mail order from Fan Attic (STH's could get you a 25% discount to boot).

Only catch is that there would have to be enough to distribute to everyone. Alternatively, we could try to do some sort of "pen pal" thing? (now we're going really old school...)
