Default Confirmed: David Wolf returns to the Hamburg Freezers

According to this article there are "persistent" rumors that Wolf will play in Germany next season:

http://www.abendblatt.de/sport/artic...service=mobile

Article mentions that an initial offer was made to Wolf by the Flames in late June but it was rejected. That may or may not refer to his qualifying offer.

IIRC this website was also one of the first to report that Wolf was signing with the Flames a year ago.

update:
Roger Millions @RogMillions
A Calgary source suggests Hamburger-Abendblatt report that LW David Wolf is heading back to Germany is accurate. Not surprising. #Flames

The way I look at it is that he has a chance to play for the Flames but only if he gets his aerobic conditioning up. If he can't do that or doesn't want to put in the time well he may as well stay in Germany.

In a way the emergence of Mr Irrelevant made Wolf expendable, no?

Jooris & Ferland came out of nowhere last season and they can really play. Unless we jettisoned Bollig I just don't see where Wolf fits in, though I liked his game on the 4th line.

From a purely hockey perspective I would keep Wolf and ditch Bollig, but I get the feeling Bollig is a good presence in the dressing room.

Makes sense. The cards are stacked against him. Way too much depth and too many young guys that have jumped past him in the system. He doesn't have a NHL future in Calgary. I don't think his skating is good enough to keep him the league very long. Germany is a great place for him.

I think I somehow managed to miss all of his games with the Flames.

Default David Wolf going back to Germany?

His skating is simply not NHL level. Not sure if that can be fixed at this point in his career.

Wonder what the money is like DEL vs AHL?

He might be good in the dressing room (who knows?), I think it's more that Bollig's got a one-way NHL contract for the next two seasons—a contract that is probably immovable for now.

Going to miss Wolf and all the Rainier Wolfcastle memes on the board.

When asked if Wolf thinks he will return to the Flames organization at some point, he responded, "I'll be back."

Agreed. I liked his style, he had a good shot, but he just can't keep up.

Bummer. He was so excited to play in the NHL and we didn't get to see much of his craziness.

Yeah I don't think he ever had a chance to become a full time NHLer.
