Scratchy so far?
There was some sort of threat, so that's scratchy but the a simple Google search shows 6 people injured from emergency exiting from the plane after landing. Six injuries weren't from an attack dude.
Come on.

^ Yup, and Air Canada got a bomb threat last week too. It's all fun and games till people get hurt going down the slides, which is usually what happens because you can pick up speed pretty quick on them and not everyone is athletic enough to not get hurt at the bottom.
At this point I'm just hoping it's a guy playing a game, or copycat incidents that are all games. I'd rather not think about the fact that it could be more serious like somebody testing responses because they plan to do something for real.

There seems to be a lot of this kind of thing atm. Bomb disposal experts removed two 'suspect packages' from the centre of Exeter yesterday, one of which was chained to railings outside a school.

Maybe do some more research?
They weren't injured because of the said "threat", they received minor injuries while evacuating via the slides.

Quote:
WestJet was advised of a threat to WestJet flight 442 from Edmonton to Toronto on June 29, 2015. The flight crew, in conjunction with our Operations Control Centre, made the decision to divert the aircraft to Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.
In order to evacuate the aircraft as quickly as possible, the crew made the decision to deploy the emergency evacuation slides. Initial reports indicate six guests received non-life threatening injuries during the evacuation and were treated by emergency response officials on the ground. A number were taken to hospital for further treatment, accompanied by members of WestJet's Special Assistance Team.
|
No word on what the threat was yet and there was no mention of any "attack".

Guys, give T@T a break. Heard something on the news and started a thread. As more people found more info, they added to the thread.
Please discuss the topic at hand, or start bashing Winnipeg.

Copycat effect. One of the most significant reasons why media almost never reports on a suicide.

I know the airlines have to take the threats seriously, but what kind of confidence does that show in the whole airport screening process then? To disrupt the flight costs money, and one would hope that the screening process is at the stage where if some crank calls in and says there's a bomb on the plane, the response from the airline should be, "okay, whatever, nice try loser".

That doesn't work because screening will never been good enough that you could be 100% certain there isn't a bomb on board given how small a device it takes to cause serious damage to an airliner. If they were to disregard it, can you imagine the hell to be paid if 125 people died because WestJet was told there was a bomb on one of their planes and ignored it? Goodbye WestJet.
Furthermore, WS391's threat was a 4 minute call talking about a bomb in a specific hold, but WS442's call yesterday was nowhere near as detailed from what I understand. Important to follow procedure when you have no idea what the threat could be.

I can appreciate that, but what is to stop this from happening to every single flight in the future? It just seems like a very easy way to cause havoc.

I hope they catch the fawker soon.
Hopefully it is just a prank by someone with way too much time on their hands.
The evacuation commands are not a casual conversation. They're being screamed by all flight attendants in cadence. You'll have people, especially kids, who may become traumatized from the events. That in itself is reason enough to lock up those responsible.
What really sucks though, is that most planes are not filled with people that love jumping out of aircraft. That slide sure does look fun, but it's not like one at the park. You not supposed to sit at the top and slide own. You jump and slide. You'll have elderly and/or non able bodied people who could sustain serious injuries in the evacuation.
This whole thing is just not cool.
