Maple Leafs re-sign Kadri. 1 year/4.1M
Leafs re-sign Kadri to a 1 year 4.1 M deal. He was a RFA. He still has 2 years left before he becomes a UFA after this 1 year deal. Put up 39 points this past season.

Doesn't seem like he is in the leafs plans
I wouldn't mind him on the Flames if the price is right. He would be a great addition if we package some if the excess forwards.
Jones+Granlund+Klimchuk for Kadri

Ugh, I wouldn't trade Klimchuk straight up for Kadri, never mind throwing in Jones and Granlund.

Would you give Bennett's spot to him? Backlund's?
Would you want him as your 4th line C?
He doesn't improve the Flames at all and would be poor use of the $4M of cap space IMO.

He has played on the wing hasn't he?
Gaudreau-Monahan-Frolik
Kadri-Bennett-Hudler
Ferland-Backlund-Colborne
Bouma-Stajan-Jooris/Shore
Hudler has done magical work with Monahan and Gaudreau so you never know. He is also still very young. If he can play on the wing, I would rather have Kadri's price tag than Jones.

Sure, but you can't just trade Jones out for him. He is a sunk cost which in no way justifies another $4M for Kadri.
And Kadri on the 2nd line wing would only make the Flames softer.
The important question is: does the player improve your team enough to justify the money? For me, that is a clear NO.

I'll agree, there really is no fit in CGY for Kadri. Add to that I really do not like the Brad Marchand level of cheapness and Stupidity he displays on a game to game basis.

No thanks to Kadri, especially if we have to give up a guy like Klimchuk.
He's brutal without the puck, he's softer then a role of toilet paper, he's lazy and inconsistant as heck.
He's also a center and we're loaded.
The Leaf's signed him to a one year deal for a reason. They're basically sick of his BS and giving him a year to prove that he belongs.

Don't construe his cheap garbage with not being soft.
He's not a tough player to play against.

Let's not aim for players from terrible organizations like Toronto.
Last time we did something similar (Jokinen from Florida) it was pretty much a bust and his bloated #1C numbers from playing in the old SW division made him seem better than he was.
He would wilt playing in the west and also on a team where there really isn't a place for him.
Alternatively we can aim for well developed players from good organizations. (Read: Hudler from Detroit).

Yes to Kadri. Good player, still young, solid stats. Lot to like there.

A lot not to like too. Negatives outweigh any positives imo.

How is Kadri soft? He plays a tough game and hits hard and at times, plays dirty.

You know what, you're right.
I think the Flames should give up a package of Brodie, Bennett, Gaudreau and Monahan for him. He is an incredible player, especially as indicated by the 1 yr deal he just landed. Definitely in the long term future plans of the Leafs. In fact dare I say, I think he may perhaps be the greatest player in the league, and perhaps the history of the NHL, just based on the fact he plays for the Leafs.

No thanks to Kadri. And klimchuk is our most underrated prospect imo he or billy Arnold one of the two. They are better than most think

Not trying to call you out CC, but this kind of statement drives me nuts.
The guy is in the NHL for a reason and is being paid $4m for a reason also. He's a solid hockey player that many teams would love to have and I assure you many players would say he is tough to play against.
Someone who is not in the NHL has no right saying he is not tough to play against.
As for this deal, it is a perfect contract for a deadline deal to a contender and I would almost assure you that's why it is for 1 year. Get a first for him at the deadline regardless of his success this season. If he blows up, get more for him, if he busts, get minimum first rounder and Shanny can blame it on Kadri not being in the right system, proper support, whatever. Someone will want him and at the deadline and no huge contract lingering makes him the perfect deadline acquisition.
