In what will probably be Washingtons last trade of the off season, the Caps send Trevor Daley to the Blues in exchange for a 2016 2nd, 3rd (COL) and Zane McIntyre.
Never easy to say goodbye to a player like Daley, but after the acquisition of Kulikov, we knew our oldest defenceman was going to be shopped.
The main goal in trading Daley was to free up that $5.5 and put it towards a forward instead.
We were aiming to get back 2 x 2nds, and we almost took that before deciding to ship him out West instead.
The 2nd and 3rd are still great to replenish our picks and build the future, but what we're really excited about is blue chip prospect Zane McIntyre, who we've been a fan since he was Zane Gothberg
Last year, Zane led North Dakota to a Frozen Four appearance with a 29-9-3 record, a save percentage of .931 and a GAA of 2.0.
He was also a top 3 finalist for the 2015 Hobey Baker award, along side Jack Eichel and Jimmy Vesey
We're looking for him to sneak by Subban in the Bruins depth and maybe even make a play to pass Smith and back up Rask. (Dare to dream!!!)
This deal doesn't hinge on that happening though. If Zane knocks it outta the park, it's a wicked bonus. If he busts, we'll still be happy to have received 2 earlier picks and shed some cap that we can now play with, which was the goal all along.
