Default Elliott Frieman to stop doing radio?

Interesting series of tweets, the first quoted below. I'd miss the guy. I think he's smart, well connected and interesting. It would be a shame to have less of him and more of, say, Damien Cox.

@NicholsOnHockey: Friedman mentioned this morning, as he has several times recently, that he and others are considering not doing radio hits next season. 1/9

Friedman is great. IMO he's the best hockey guy that Sportsnet has and one of the better guests (I also like Duhatchek and Lebrun) that the Fan960 has on a regular basis.

Yeah, Friedman kind of got into trouble when Nichols transcribed one of his 960 radio hits where he mentioned Malkin possibly wanting out. Put him in hot water with Malkin's camp and the Penguins.

That is why he is considering stopping, thinks he will have more control on what gets out there.

Yeah he talked about how with tweets and articles you can proof read and make sure it sounds right, but with radio people can take your words and misrepresent them. Said he loves the talking about hockey at a pub with friends atmosphere of radio, but it might not be worth the aggravation.

That would be a real shame. The Friedman and Duhatschek segments are 90% of why I listen to the Fan in the morning.

Can CP create a petition to get Elliot Freedman to stay on Sportsnet Fan 960?

Yes, we can. Unfortunately, the petition needs to be written and signed on stacks of 100s.

If its about getting a little more money, pay them. They're worth every penny for their segments.

Like Table 5 said, I think Hat and Friedge are why most listen in the morning.

^ Agreed, he needs to stay. It was the best part of my drive to work all season.

Love listening to Elliotte Friedman in the mornings and him, Warrener, and Stephen Brunt are the main reasons I turn to 960 on the 40+ minute drive to work.

If Friedman stopped doing radio, I'd be 33% less likely to listen.

He may prefer not to do it... but considering Rogers pays him I'm sure they'll "recommend" he keep doing them for the Sportnet Radio stations.

He said he is not contractually obligated to do it. Seems like he might go by the letter of his contract.

Brunt is a dying breed as he's a true sportswriter not a blogger, stats guy, or hack. Boxing, football, tennis, hockey, baseball, you name it he's covered it. Probably the best Canada has to offer.

As for Friedman I don't see why he would be worried about what the Penguins organization thinks as in a few years they will all be fired.
