Right shot D man, plays for North Bay...the team that knocked Bennett and Kingston out of the OHL playoffs. How much did he have to with shutting down the Bennett/Crouse line?
Bruce is a hulking defender with good physical tools, but he is still very raw. Very light for his size at 207 lbs, Bruce needs to physically mature into his body. Skating needs work as he was exposed laterally too often. He uses his stick and reach effectively on opposition rushes. He plays a simple game and displays good gap control and instincts. Bruce has been able to benefit from playing on a team that plays the type of game that is most beneficial towards his development as a prospect. He isn't a defenseman with big upside but he projects to be a safe third pairing defenseman who understands his role clearly, has great size and has a willingness to use it.
Quotable: “He’s too raw, just too far off for me to use a pick on him.” NHL Scout
"A behemoth defenceman (6'6) who does have potential, especially playing under defensive genius Butler. Right now he's still a major work in progress though. Defensively, he's a bit awkward and he can be exposed by quicker forwards off the rush. As he upgrades his mobility and ability to use his reach, he could develop into a solid defensive prospect. He also needs to play with more intensity, especially in the corners. Offensively, he keeps things simple and seems hesitant to attack. A player to monitor as he develops (and fills into his frame)."
