The Washington Capitals have traded Devan Dubnyk.
We had received quite a few offers on Dubnyk, and had extended many feelers out there as well to gauge interest if we included other pieces. In the end, it came down to 2 teams. One offered an immediate impact player. One of the best forwards in the league. It was tough not to take, but we needed to do something for our future and we circled back to take one of the first offers we received.
Washington is very please to welcome the arrival of Riley Sheahan and Dimitri Kulikov to the Capitals organization.
To Ottawa:
Devan Dubnyk
To Wahsington:
Sheahan
Kulikov

Trading Dubnyk was tough (even tougher to trade him within the Eastern Conference) but we believe that, similar to Varlamov, Dubnyk will come back down to Earth and his rating will too. We believe we sold high, and are ok with that. Regardless or whether he does great or not, we still have 82ov Elliott and 78ov Darling, plus a 71ov Forsberg in the system. Dubnyk was expendable.
Drafted 14th overall in 2009, Dimitr Kulikov immediately jumps into our top D pairing, along side Goligoski.
With Daley, de Haan, Sustr, and the surprise ratings jump of Weber, we are comfortable with the back end, and feel the defensive future is exciting.
Pro insider tip of the day: I'm a sucker for Red Wing prospects, and liked Sheahan a lot. We know that his NHL career will have him stuck on the 3rd line for a couple more years, but also know that the 22 year old, 21st overall pick from 2010 has a very bright future.
Thanks to Flickered Flame for the back and forth chats.
Thanks to everyone else I harassed with proposals as well.
Stay tuned for the Capitals season preview, coming soon.
