Default Red Wings name Todd Nelson new head coach of their AHL Affiliate

Wasn't sure if this belonged in the no good thread, but certainly interesting how quickly Todd Nelson's fortunes have changed. From an afterthought on the NHL's most dysfunctional franchise to heading up the AHL affiliate for a team that knows how to treat their talent.

I, for one, wish him all the best in his new position.

Todd Nelson is a good coach. I would have thought they might keep him around as an Associate Coach. But it is the Oil afterall. E=NG

He was given the choice, but Nelson still wanted to be a head coach. The Red Wings pay their AHL HC as well or better than NHL Associate coaches.

Nelson still only got sub mediocre results at best in the NHL. He knows as well as anyone that the culture ingrained in that core group won't win in the NHL.

Good for him, seems to be a pretty good coach.

Wish him nothing but success with the Detroit organization, he's one of the nice guys in the game.
