Default Picnic Sites in city

I am wondering if you guys can recommend some nice picnic sites in Calgary.

Also, Do I need to book the picnic tables ? I was thinking of doing a get together on river side at Shouldice park on one of the weekends. Around 20-25 people.

Do I need to book those sites. I checked city of calgary page, it says I have to pay 61$ for using it ? Cant I just take few stoves and use them..Do I still have to pay even if I use my own stoves and one of their tables ?

Thanks

Come down south to Fish Creek park. Free and lots of spaces but it fills up quickly on nice weekends.

Have to agree.

At the end of Bow Bottom trail.

North Glenmore Park has lots of picnic tables and fire pits. Great view of the mountains. You can also stroll down to the Weaselhead in 15 minutes. Pretty sure you have to book with the city, though.

Edworthy Park (Bow Trail side). There are a bunch of picnic tables there and I think the only one you have to reserve is the one with the sheltered area. Besides that there's no reservation required.

If you drive by the sites at North Glenmore Park the day of and they don't have a party written on the sign, it's first come, first served. But the probability of it not being booked is low.

You used to be able to--so I assume you still can--book covered picnic areas (with a couple tables) at Bowness Park. They easily accommodate 25 people.

We use to have family reunions there and would always rain, until one year someone discovered you can book the covered sections.

Other than that, Confederation Park has a few picnic areas, Edworthy Park has a few--both are nice, central.

Prince's Island Park is great. Stanley Park is excellent too.

Crescent Heights? There's a nice area by the school, or you can go to the ridge and get a great view of the city.

The area east of the stampede grounds must have a few random areas as well I think. Not sure about picnic tables though. Costco is selling a few if you want to bring your own.

Bowness park during the summer has obscene minimum charges to book tables unless you book one of the far off sites which are $61. The others are in the $350 range.

Not true. While open sites can be taken on a first-come-first served basis, all picnic sites at Edworthy allow reservations. The map from the city is here.

You can use the picnic tables but there is always a chance someone has reserved and will kick you out. OP has 20-25 people. I'd pay the $61 to reserve the site. Edworthy reservations used to come with firewood from the city but not any longer I believe.

Why not try under the fifth street flyover? Central location.
