Default Forbes. NHL could announce relocation in June

@BizballMaury: File this under rumor.... NHL relocation around the end of June.

Writer for Forbes suggesting relocation could be announced in June.

TSN1040 in Vancouver speculating Florida to Quebec but of course there is the mess in Arizona.

Looked and didn't see this news in the likely threads. Hope this warrants its own thread. Mods delete if u think otherwise.

I doubt it's Florida with the draft being held there this summer.

That QC arena looks amazing. I hope the Yotes move there. Would be nice to see the Noriques Jerseys fly again.

Wait, whit, I thought all the Yates needed was a stable ownership group and to be renamed after the state.

They couldn't possibly move now

Welcome to the Florida draft, where we present to you the world's hottest player since Sidney Crosby being picked by the team located in the coldest, furthest place away from here you could possibly get for an NHL team, assuming you can call them an NHL team.

Oh and by the way, we're heading out the door right behind him. Thanks for 20 years of beach hockey!

Arizona is unveiling their new jerseys on June 26th. A hint that they are relocating? My guess is that either no one moves and this is just a rumour or Carolina moves..

Clearly the Maple Leafs are moving to Las Vegas, since it's such a can't-miss hockey market.

After that, Toronto will apply for an expansion team. This will bring major-league hockey to the city for the first time since 1967.

Coyotes are just a matter of time but there's no way it's the Panthers this season and I personally still don't buy Quebec City as an NHL destination. It's a smaller market than Hamilton and ticket prices are a lot higher than they were when the Nordiques were playing in front of an average of 14,000 fans.

For what it's worth Daly denies.

Quote:
"There is absolutely no truth to speculation that any NHL franchise is currently considering relocation," Daly said on Wednesday afternoon. "The League and its franchises have never been more stable. There has been no discussion whatsoever regarding a potential relocation and there is a zero percent chance that any franchise will be moved prior to the start of the 2015/16 season."

The timing of this with the Canadian Dollar where it is, is suspect.

The only way I could see something happen is if the Coyotes and the City of Glendale are negotiating a termination of their lease and the Yotes can finally move away. Even then, I can't see them actually moving until 2016 at the earliest.

They're a fairweather market. When the going is good, the building is full, when they're like they have been for 5 years. Crowds die. I'd like to be proven wrong with numbers but I'm basing this opinion on the fact that ownership want to clear out cap and be a floor team. Which is fair, they went out and doled out a ton of cash to Semin and J.Staal etc and have gotten zero positive results.

Doesn't the dude who is the new leader of the Parti Quebecois still have an ownership share in the company that built that new arena in QC? I can't imagine Bettman being ok with that
