Default Above ground pool

Just wondering if anyone here has any comments/experience with small/medium sized pools in their yards. I see the INTEX ones everywhere but wonder how they stay warm with the Calgary weather... Im looking at a steel walled one also but theres still the problem of keeping the temperature comfortable? Any one here have a pool in their yard they use on a regular basis? If so, what kind, and does it need a heater?

My brother in Kelowna heats his above ground pool early and late in the season so I imagine it would be a must in Calgary with our cool nights.

Had one set up for a few years. If you want adults to swim in it, get a heater. Kids will swim in any temperature water. I actually saw kids turn blue from swimming in cold water, little smurfs.

We used to have a fair size intex pool. I dont remember exact size but must have been 15 ft across or so. It was great toy for the kids and as someone mentioned kids don't care much about the temperature. I'd drop in a couple times a year, but if I remember correctly, it was only really warm for about the last few weeks of July and week or two into August. Our nights just are just too cool to maintain any warmth in the water otherwise.

Don'''t let that stop you though. They're pretty cheap fun, the kids will love it and will use it ALL summer. The only down side is you'll have a huge dead circle of grass where it sits after its taken down, unless you put it on a patio or something. Also, the grass gets kinda stinky and slimy around the edge of it after a while as it's pretty much impossible to mow or trim right up to it. After the first summer we had ours, I got a load of sand, spread it out, and placed it on that. Made for a softer bottom and easier to look after the grass.

As well...or at least in my case, the chemicals you add to the water will kill the grass when it is splashed over the side.

I never did get the heater so no idea. I do know its really easy to forget to keep up with the chemicals and the water will turn greenish. So stay on top of that.
And get a cover so you dont have to spend a ton of time cleaning leaves and bugs out of the pool.
