Well, at least we know the Sharks won't be rebounding next season.

At first glance I thought this was a bad hiring, but after looking at his past, DeBoer has a pretty decent history.

I wonder why Bylsma hasn't found employment yet...verrrry interesting

Think he ends up in NJ with his old buddy Shero?

He took the Devils to the finals not that long ago. I am sure he is a good coach. I didn't watch him really when he was in Florida or New Jersey.

I don't actually think it matters too much what coach they bring in, I think they will struggle to make the playoffs again with that roster. Which is a good thing for the flames.

Bylsma's one dimension style of coaching will be way too obvious once he gets behind the Devil's bench. Lou Lamoriello will become impatient after a season or two and he'll take over the bench again.

I think it is the player personnel that is the problem, not the coach. DeBoer is no Dallas Eakins.

They have the same problem the Flames did 2010 to 2013. They are relying on Thornton & Marleau to get them the Cup and we relied on Iggy.

The thing is, it's not like Thornton & Marleau are bad players, or not good enough. Just like Iggy was still good during those years. It just wasn't the right mix of players to take them to the promised land.

Iggy had 43 goals as recently as 2011 and had 29 goals this year.

The Sharks are led at forward by Couture and Pavelski not Thornton and Marleau.

This just in: Sharks to become a boring, shut-down, defensive team. Their offense will be provided by predictable offensive systems and the young players will have all the creativity coached out of them.

DeBoer has always been a disappointment wherever he's coached. His highest finish ever was 3rd in the Southeast division with a young Florida team that had a lot of promise, only to have DeBoer fail to develop them properly. It led directly to that young team falling to the bottom of the standings yet again. He's awful for young players in the NHL. If the Sharks are looking to rebuild or retool, DeBoer is the exact wrong guy for the job.

He's a .500 coach that wears out his welcome in a couple year's time. Not sure how he keeps finding work. I recall Warrener on 960 said he had it on good authority that he was not a popular guy in the Panthers locker room.

Ronnie Shuker@THNRonnieShuker2h2 hours ago Peter DeBoer has made the playoffs once in almost seven seasons as an NHL coach.

I actually think Eakins is a good coach, he just couldn't get the entitled brats up North to listen to him.

I'm surprised that out of all the options they went with this one.

Ah well, at least the Flames wont have to worry about the Sharks making the playoffs.

Wha..? No. You cant even say that with a straight face.

They did listen to him and thus the Flying V and the Swarm Defence were born. Two strategies that sucked like no other.

He's one of the worst coaches I've ever seen. He wasn't just bad, he was an embarrassment.

I think you forget the green text.

Maybe he is a good coach at the AHL level but he was in way over his head coaching an NHL team. If you can't get a bunch of talented young players to listen to you, something is wrong.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
DeBoer is believed to have agreed to a 4 year contract with the Sharks.
