is there an expected timeframe for the ratings? I'm a little hesitant to do anything in case I get burned when the ratings are done.

If a player had a pair of 60 point season in 2012 and 2013, then back to back 30 point seasons the last two years it would make a ton of sense that they'd have a drop back in the rankings.

I think a gray area in re-rates is injuries... can you explain that a bit better for the new guys Grant?

A GM's Guide to Re-rates
Lower your expectations - Your team isn't going to be reshaped by the release of the re-rate numbers... it's never happened and your team isn't special enough that you will be the exception. Like most things in life, you don't get instant gratification...If it's not what you expect look at it as a bridge to the rating he will have next season
Cherry Picking - So Bill Pylon didn't get his OV boost you were hoping for, that really sucks because of X, Y, Z reasons... but while looking over your team you notice that a few other players got a little more favourable rating (or well deserving)... Understand that there is going to be guys that fall on each side of the fence and only focusing on the players that you thing should be better while over-looking those that did better then you thought
Helicopter Parenting - It's really cool that you child got a participation sticker in class today but no one gives a ####... Don't over-rate your players because they are your darlings, just because you think Tavares should have a closet full of hardware doesn't mean that everyone is disrespecting your little superstar. Once you get your rating for your player and it's not up to your expectations... then find a couple similar comparable... fair honest comparable and how does your rating fair with those. If they are inline with those players then there isn't an issue. Once again don't cherry pick but find honest player comparable's
Don't out smart yourself - I'm going to go out and trade for all the guys you think should get great FO boost in re-rates so that once the new numbers are out you will have a great face off team.... If you are going to take the gamble that numbers are going to roll out on way or another it's nobody fault but your own when you guess wrong
There's going to be mistakes - Nobody is perfect, you can't have 500 guys getting numbers and all of them be perfect. That 7th defenceam on your team that you think should have a 2ov better rating then he does is not an outrage.... if thats the problem then the ratings a perfect bacuse the day a 7th deferencemans rating is your biggest grip then you really don't have one
If it sound like I'm preparing you for a hit, it's because I am... that way your not disappointing yourself and maybe you're see maybe the numbers are a lot more fair when we focus less on our own team

Good question and accurately described as a gray area. However, our approach has been to not punish a player severely for injuries. They typically take a hit to their durability rating more than anything. If a player has had more than 1 recent season that was injury filled, then they are more likely to get a severe downgrade - but if it is just a single injury riddled season, they shouldn't get hammered.

Is there any "limit" that players will tend to move? For example in years past ratings were usually sort of capped (like a soft cap, and maybe it was never really stated) at around 3 points. Like if a player was rated 65 you wouldn't see swings of 5 points often, if ever. Is there anything like that or a sort of rule of thumb at all, or am I just plain out to lunch? (its been known to happen!)

We've never had a hard cap or anything.

What is the impact on voinov going to be (aside from reduced discipline and improved fighting ratings). Trying to think of a comparable in the past but I cant.

Joni PItkanen who played 30 games that season, which is still a lot more then voinov but when his rating came back he was still a quilty enough D man for me. I forget the ratings but I have no problem with his 7+M cap hit. the problem was he followed it up with another 22 ga,me season and then I seen about a 8 or 9 ov hit... but i don't remember a big problem with the first season

So if I understand this correctly, what you are telling me is:
When Roman Josi does not get the ratings bump he 'deserves' (in line with the top 10 NHL defenseman that he is), that I should not cry about this???
Ok - good to know. I'll try...
