Icon42 Martin Brodeur stays in St Louis as Assistant GM

http://blues.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=768373

Quote:
St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Wednesday the club has named Martin Brodeur as the team's Assistant General Manager.

The Blues and Brodeur have agreed on a three-year contract.

Brodeur, 43, originally joined the Blues as a free agent on Dec. 2, 2014. After a seven-game stint with the club in which he posted a 3-3-0 record, Brodeur announced his retirement from the NHL on Jan. 29 and moved into the Blues’ front office as a Senior Advisor to the General Manager.
When he announced his retirement and joined the Blues' front office, it was said that it would only be for the remainder of the season and he would be joining the Devils' front office next season.

I guess things changed.

Good for him! He'll get experience and maybe become a GM of his own in the long run.

Kinda feel bad for Devils fans. They lost Parise and Kovalchuk a couple years ago and now they lose Brodeur

What are they losing? His career ended a few seasons ago.

True, in the sense of their current team they are not necessarily losing anything but surely the fans felt a sense of betrayal when Parise decided to sign elsewhere after he stated that he would like to stay in Jersey and when Kovalchuk unexpectedly took off to the KHL. Brodeur was part of the Devils for 1200+ games over 22 seasons and was part of the Blues for 7 games but decided to stay in the Blues organization

I'd be disappointed if Iginla went into management and it wasn't with the Flames.

Meh. I don't really care what players do after their careers are over. Iginla could be assistant GM for the Canucks for all I care.

Purely speculation on my part buy I really think that Brodeur and Lamarello had some kind of falling despite the public pleasantries.

He goes to the Blues because the Devils didn't want him to finish the remainder of his career there? Cmon?!.. He played how many more games after the move?

And the Blues thought an over the hill Brodeur was the answer?..

No.. I don't think so. I think the Blues offered him a spot to play a few more games and mentor Elliot and Allan a bit prior to the playoffs. Why not on the Blues part? No risk.

But the Devils and Lamarello parting ways with Marty?.. Something was said/ happened that you don't come back from or Lou went too far..

Anyway... Haha!

Good for Marty Brodeur! Was the next great Franco goalie and always a class act.

I wouldn't mind if Iggy got experience somewhere else to learn the ropes of management before jumping to Calgary brand new to it.

He doesn't play for the Flames so he's not really relevant to me. I enjoyed his tenure with the Flames but no more or less than other Flame greats. I personally don't think he's the type of guy that will be involved in the NHL when he retires.

I agree that it's very odd how Brodeur isn't with the Devil's post-career. For years we heard from Lou and Brodeur himself that a position was his in the Devil's organization once he retired. I can understand going to the Blues to try for one last run. But now staying in the Blues front office for the foreseeable future?

Very odd indeed.

Maybe it was Shero that decided he didn't want Marty in his inner circle, not Lou
