Authentic, premier, replica.... O_o
Soooo finally after boycotting buying a jersey since 2004.(hated the new style) I've decided it might be time to invest. But when I paruse the Calgary nhl store, I don't see them selling authentics any more.
I'm gathering the premier are the fanciful spin speak for replica.
Tell me they are just out of stock.....
Or is all they sell now?

Premier is just a licensed replica. Wherever you're looking might just be out. Here an authentic one

Depending on how big of a hurry you're in, you could wait until Christmas when the Fanattic has 35% off jerseys and customization. I think they may do this at the end of the season in June as well? I got a customized white authentic (Gaudreau) for $280. Places like River City Sports and Ice Jerseys have sales every now and then too, usually around 25% off.
The quality between the authentics and replicas is like comparing apples and parrots. Especially with that 25-35% off, I'd invest in an authentic.

Costco has a $30 knock-off with the current shoulders and the classic yellow stripes around the waist. Looks odd.

They do. Or they have for the last couple of years, I don't see why it would change. It's a one day thing though and you probably will need to actually go to the Dome as we learned from the fiasco last year.

The RBK license expires end of next year, so we'll probably get a new jersey at that time when a new company takes over the NHL license.

I only buy authentic. I want the same jersey as the players are wearing. Whatever you do, stay away from the cheap knock off's. Those things look terrible.

Interesting. What's the scuttlebutt on a new company?

I don't see the point of buying an authentic vs replica. Its like $200 more, but looks the same.
Having said that, I spent the extra for a 2010 Canada Iggy authentic. Sometimes I attach the fight strap to my pants to pretend I'm gonna eff someone up

Is the fit any different between authentic and replica? ^They might look the same, but if the fit is better, I would say it's worth the extra cost to purchase an authentic.
I got a replica retro (former 3rd jersey) when Sport Chek was getting rid of them for $30 a couple of summers ago, and I find it kind of baggy all over even though it's the right size for me (medium). I was thinking about putting a name and number on it this summer but if the fit is better in an authentic I might just say screw it and buy one of those.

They don't look the same. Cheap silk screened shoulder patches. Glued on team logo on chest. Slits up both sides. A patch with the size of the jersey on the front.

Looks the same but way higher quality. Especially if you ever play shinny in it or throw it in the wash.
Personally I like the authentic but would be hard pressed to buy one at reg price. As previously mentioned, wait for the gear/locker room sale or a long weekend sale at River City.

Fit is different. They do numbers (ie 50,52,54) vs just S/M/L/XL so there's more variation. Funny, the Premier actually fits me better.

Silk screened? Any of the Premiers I have are heat pressed patches. The women's on the other hand, are silk screened right onto the fabric.

I have an authentic home and a replica away/alternate. Honestly don't think the $200 difference in price is worth it, but that's just me. The cheap shoulder patches bug me, but that's about it.

I myself buy the authentic ones as I like the cut, color, quality and the durability.
I think it all comes down to how much you pay for the replica vs authentic.
A fully Fanattic customized authentic jersey goes for $400+ which is a heavy pill to swallow without discounts. Some replicas can be had for like $80 on sale or clearance.
The benefit I find with the authentic ones is if you were them often and need to wash them often they generally last longer.
I read a stat somewhere where the cost of an official NHL "sweater" back in the 1950's was like $2.50. Adjusted for inflation the cost of an official NHL sweater should cost approx $60 in 2015. Kind of makes you wonder sometimes. Not sure how accurate the figures or but the true cost of official sports gear is approaching a joke in my opinion.

Do the authentic ones fray every time they catch on something?
My retro replica jersey is pretty beat up with frays and catches from only 40-50 wears.
