Default Do you have a wireless dead spot in your house? Good Solution

After moving where I record episodes of Fireside Chat, I found the wireless connection to be very spotty and Dan made a great suggestion.

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2

It's an ethernet over power converter. Basically what you do is hook up a cat-6 cable (or cat 5, but get 6 because they are better) to your modem or router, which ever has phone jack connectors on the back. Then you plug that into this device and that device into the nearest wall outlet.

You can then plug the other one in anywhere else in your house and run another cat-6 cable to any computer and it will be hooked up as if it was plugged directly into the modem/router. You won't need the wireless connection. This is awesome if you don't have a good wi-fi connection anywhere in your house. There are many variations of this on the market currently as well, I only linked monoprice's version because they have extremely cheap cat-6 cables (a 5ft and 20 ft were 5.20 USD combined)

Just figured I would share because I never heard of it and it works amazingly well.

This technology is only starting to take off too. I first worked with something like this maybe 3 years ago, it was a Mitsubishi condensing unit (cooler for a small data room). They actually sent the thermostat data through the main wires so no separate cables had to be run other than the main power. Exciting stuff for sure!

I have a Cisco version at home, have for a few years and it's fantastic. My modem/main wi-fi router is in my office on the top floor, but user the powerline adapter in the basement to have wifi go to my smart tv. Works very well.

I have a Dlink one set up for about 3 years. My modem and router are in the basement and I have the adaptor connected to a switch that is connected to my home entertainment system in the living room on the main floor. I've got the tv, cable box, xbox 360, ps3, and media box all hard wired to it. Works great and I haven't had any problems in the 3 years I've had it.

I bought this Range Extender about 2 months ago, and it has so far been worth every penny. Because of the way our condo is wired, I could never get plug in extenders to work. This is a very nice alternate solution to rectify wifi dead spots

I had something like this about 5 years ago when I lived with roommates in a house. The modem was way in the basement and I could never get signal in my bedroom. With this was I was able to get internet for my PC and xbox in my room. Great device.

My "phone jacks" in my 2002 era house were actually all wired with CAT-5e. I had an electrician come in and convert many of them to network ports so presto - instant gigabit ethernet with no worries about crappy signal....
