I would be extremely concerned if Kanzig made an appearance in the playoffs.
I'm sure they are just letting him hang around the big club for experience, but there will now be tons of people hoping he draws in to smash Getz and Perry.
Problem being, Kanzig probably is a poorer skater than Wolf is. Leave it at that.

There is absolutely no chance of Kanzig getting into a game, if that is what people are excited about.
He is probably 4 years away from the NHL.

I met his grandma at the Hockeyville game.
She was nice, therefore I approve of this move.

I wouldn't call Kanzig four years away, he was four years away two years ago. He's still pretty raw and he needs to work on his skating -- but he has improved quite a bit since the Flames drafted him. That being said, expectations need to be in line with his abilities -- he likely tops out as a #4/$5 guy with crazy size and reach. He's no Zdeno Chara, although there are some parallels from a development standpoint.
In today's NHL Kanzig needs enough mobility to make that reach impossible to escape. He could be more physical, his passing game needs more work -- but his assets can make up for his shortcomings. If the Flames focus on developing him into an effective shutdown/stay-at-home guy who relies on his partner to make the outlet pass then he could fit right in on this roster in a couple years.

I think we'll know in two years. Bottom six or bust, but he could surprise and make a top four guy...but his skating would have to improve dramatically.

I bet he plays next year, if Weidman can turn himself from whipping boy to lifeblood of the team's core Kanzig can do anything. Bad skater? That's what skating trainers and lessons are for, unless he has no ankles and mongoloid feet his ceiling is undefined as of yet.

Unless the Flames defence gets absolutely ravaged by injuries next season, I doubt Kanzig sees any time in the NHL. Right now, he's behind at least Wotherspoon, Culkin, Kulak, Morrison, and Sieloff next season (plus Ramage if he re-signs).

They should dress him only for warmups just to stand at center ice and give the death stare at the Ducks.
Or put a Raymond jersey on him and hope no one notices.

Wow! Those two do look alike. I think there might be a slight height difference though.

Maybe he's useful in drills pretending to be big Duck defencemen hitting Hudler.
Seriously, it's a "good year kid, have trip to the POs".
