Bruins fire General Manager Peter Chiarelli
http://bruins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=763437
Quote:
Boston Bruins President Cam Neely announced today, Wednesday, April 15, that Peter Chiarelli has been relieved of his duties as General Manager of the Boston Bruins. An Interim General Manager will not be named at this time and the search for a new hire - which will be led by Bruins Chief Executive Officer Charlie Jacobs and Neely - will begin immediately. The Bruins current Assistant General Managers, Player Personnel Staff and Coaching Staff will remain in place at this time.
Jacobs and Neely will hold a press conference today at 3:00 p.m. ET in the Will McDonough Room at TD Garden.
"We are grateful for Peter's service to the Bruins organization over the last nine seasons," said Neely. "His efforts undoubtedly helped the team achieve great success during his tenure and he helped restore the proud tradition of Boston Bruins hockey. We ultimately feel that this change is necessary in order to ensure sustainable success for the club both in the short term and the long term. Our search for a new General Manager will begin immediately."
Chiarelli served as General Manager for nine seasons, after being named the seventh GM in club history on May 26, 2006.

Don't think he will be out of a job for long. Could see Toronto and San Jose being interested in bringing him on.

They'll probably let the new GM make that call. Wouldn't surprise me though.

He was just the 7th GM in Boston Bruins history? That almost doesn't compute.

Good GM, just ran out of cap space.
Cup victory, cup final, decent drafting record.
Harsh firing IMO.

If Daryl Katz had any hockey starts whatsoever he could turn that pathetic managers group around so fast with the talent that is and might be available.
Chairelli as GM and imagine if the Kings let Sutter go?
But thankfully he isn't, so he won't.

Edmonton could hire Chiarelli as GM and Futa or Fenton as head coach. Plus, Katz banishes himself to outside the continent and stay the #### away from any hockey operations whatsoever.
Of course, that will never happen since Katz/Lowe are running a dictatorship up there. Toronto will actually be smart enough to figure this one out I'm sure.

Not a surprise and just goes to show that with success comes with unsustainable expectations. IMO the Seguin trade was cause enough to be fired as that trade was a game changer for the Bruins who in the last couple of seasons have been shown up as an old and slow team. Seguin is exactly the type of bridge player they need and they traded him because he was acting his age (pretty shocking when a 20 year old acts like a 20 year old I know) rather than a 30 year old veteran player.
Not really sure what the future holds for the team as I don't see them getting any better as their best players have already had their career seasons for the most part.

I guess 2 appearances in the SCF in 5 years gets you fired.
I don't get this. He did an amazing job with this team.

Chiarelli is from Ottawa so I imagine that might be someone else in play as well. Much better looking roster than the mess that is Toronto. Getting fired has to come down to the Seguin trade pretty much.

According to a source, Ray Shero once turned down an offer to manage the Bruins. Wonder if Boston is still interested?

He's made some terrible trades and ultimately what he got for Seguin has been the downfall of that team. It's good to see the B's on the decline.

Seems a little kneejerk to me, Chiarelli took the Bruins from irrelevance to a league powerhouse. Where are the Bruins going to find someone better? I think they just shot themselves in the foot
