Detroit area woman sets fire to Lightning flag as it was passed around arena
Some people...
Looks it like it was one of those giant flags that they pass around the arena before the game starts.

Quote:
A Detroit-area woman set fire to a huge Tampa Bay Lightning flag as it was passed through the sold-out crowd at Wednesday night’s NHL playoff game at Amalie Arena, authorities said.
Lena Sinishtaj, 35, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, was booked on a charge of first-degree arson of an occupied structure. She was being held without bond, according to Hillsborough County Jail records.
About 200 people were under the flag when Sinishtaj held a lit lighter to it, Tampa police said. She was able to cause a small burn to the flag, police said.

Charge her with 20,000 counts of reckless endangerment. One for every person in the arena.

That could have gone horribly wrong if it happened to really catch fire.
What a dumb move. Glad she is being held accountable.

This woman is just plain stupid. She's putting so many lives in danger doing that. Not only the fans, but the players, coaches, support staff, media members, arena staff, etc.
I hope she's charged and sentenced with something. Reckless endangerment seems appropriate.

Looks like the charge she was hit with carries up to 30 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. Though I would imagine that would get pleaded down to a much smaller charge.

What an idiot.
I could see some stupid kid doing something like that, but a 35 year old woman... there is something just wrong with her.

To be fair, there was probably more like 11,000 people there but your point stands...

What I find hard to believe is that someone from Detroit made headlines in Florida. The land where crazy is the norm and the most bizarre things in USA happen. Must be something in the water.

They average over 18K during the regular season so... fair to say 19-20K at least during the playoffs.

Tampa is the only truly successful Sun Belt team. 10 straight years over 15,000 avg and only 3 of those years under 18,000. Of course they're a very well run organization that is consistently doing well which helps unlike say the Coyotes or Panthers.

The NHL robbing the Flames a cup and giving it to Tampa sure helped.

For the postseason, the Lightning are limiting ticket sales to buyers with Florida ZIP codes to “preserve a hometown environment for our fans,” Wickett said.

Does that seem like a complete BS move to anyone else?

Sure did. On second thought, too bad that flag didn't burn better.

Imagine if Lightning fan tried to light an octopus on fire at the Joe?! Yes ... imagine that. Slightly charred. Squirt of lemon. /Drools
