Does Giordano win the Norris?
Gio just got a lot of praise from Cherry on HNIC. He went on to say there was no one else better and he would eat his hat if he doesn't win the Norris. What are your thoughts CP? Does Gio win the Norris this year?

Nice to have Cherry pounding the drums for him. I'd say he's got to be one of the favourites. It'll depend a lot on how he finishes the season.

Unless he gets hurt or his game falls off a cliff, he should.

I'd say he's the favorite. He'll have to completely fall off the map and have someone really pick things up the rest of the way to overtake him I'd think.

He also called Johnny Hockey Johnny Canuck several times before being corrected. I like Don but .....you know.
To me, if the Flames make the playoffs he wins it. Anything less and no.

Yeah, Maclean corrected him and Cherry just said he likes Johnny Canuck better. I wonder if he thinks Gaudreau's Canadian?

I think Giordano should be the leading candidate for the Hart right now. He is the #1 reason why a team projected to be 25-30th overall is in the playoff race as we hit the new year.
That being said, he will win the Norris if the Flames actually make the playoffs. If the Flames fall short, the Norris will go to whichever eastern conference defenceman scores the most points.

I think it hinges on Flames making the playoffs.

Who would Giordano's competition be right now anyway? Shattenkirk has had a good year for the Blues and Carlson has been doing well albeit very quietly in Washington. In terms of press / media coverage, Giordano has definitely been getting the most hype and the usual guys (Suter, Weber, Seabrook) have been just okay so far both in terms of hype and production. Subban and Karlsson have both been not very good this year.

Pretty sure his dad's background is French Canadien. He comes from a town right on the Quebec border. Doesn't make Johnny a Canadian though, just a fine hockey player.

The last time Cherry was "pounding the drum" for a Flames player was for Phaneuf and the Calder. That didn't work out too well so I'd just rather he didn't say anything.

Wasn't he nominated with Crosby and Ovechkin?...I'd say that worked out as well as it could have.

I guess when you put it that way, yes. I meant that all the accolades seemed to go to Phaneuf's head and he was way too cocky while his play dropped off. I'm just glad Giordano is so humble otherwise all this praise might get to him too. Haven't seen a drop in his play other than the odd shift or poor decision.
