Default Johnny Hockey: Countdown to 20 goals and 60 pts (GREAT SUCCESS! Bonus: 25G/40A/65P)

Well, I apologize for creating another similiar thread but since I started the other countdown thread Money started scoring, so I figured to give Johnny a little push.

But seriously, kid is having a great rookie year. He'll hit 50 points for sure, let's see if he can push it to 60. It would be amazing.

Plus, Forsberg has slowed down with only 2 points in the last 10 games (and is a -7 in the last 5 - ouch), so here is a chance for JG to catch up in the rookie scoring race. Johnny currently has 6 less points.

I'm also curious as to what everyone thinks will take for Johnny to win the Calder?

Johnny has the media hype going for him - especially in the East which is crucial (Theodore Vs Iggy ) plays for a Canadian team (more importantly, doesn't play for Nashville or Florida) and is currently leading a team predicted to draft top 3, to a PO spot in the tight WC.

Personally, if the point difference between Gaudreau and FF is neglible (<5 pts), assuming he doesn't overtake FF, I think he's gotta real good shot.

I'm sure he'll make 60 pts. Don't think he'll catch Forsberg.

I'd like to see him hit 60 just because there were some people livid at the suggestion Gaudreau could potentially have a rookie season similar to MacKinnon's last season (63).

It's going to be tough.. these remaining games will be the toughest of the season with everyone fighting for a playoff spot.

I think if Monahan and Gaudreau pass these metrics we'll be a playoff team. Here's top hoping. Go Johnny Go!

If the forwards continue to get the offensive support they've been getting from the back end, 60 points for Gaudreau (and making the playoffs) is still feasible. Brodie, Wideman, Russell, and Diaz will all have to step up to make that happen. Here's hoping!

At the beginning of the season I would have never thought we would have a thread discussing this topic. Even if he doesn't achieve these 60 points it's still the most impressive rookie seasons for a Flames rookie since Phaneuf.

Think he realistically ends up with 56-59. 60+ I think would hinge on him having another hot run with some multi-point games down the final stretch..which is not entirely out of the question.

He went a very long stretch from mid October to January a hair off a PPG.

I have to say, my expectations of Johnny at the beginning of the season were high, but not this high!

104th overall. Go Johnny Go!

It might already be happening if he had been a bit luckier recently.

On Monahan's opening goal in Boston, Gaudreau would have had an assist if the puck hadn't hit Hudler's back on its way to Monahan.

Last night, Gaudreau was on the ice for the first three goals and was an integral part of the play on each one. However, no points. He has 3 points in the last 3 games and it could easily have been 6.

He looks to me like a guy that is about to break out.

Remember the outrage from Oiler fans at the suggestion by one writer that Gaudreau would finish with more points then Ryan Nugent Hopkins?

That'll be fun to bring up again.

Yup. To put it into context how impressive he's been, last year our leading scorer was Hudler (a 10 year veteran) with 54 points. Johnny might hit 60 in his rookie year.

I've been noticing that he gets a whole lot more attention from the opposition now and it's one of the big reasons his line mates are getting multiple point games. Impressive for anyone never mind a rookie.

On a side note, I went on a trip and got to watch the Flames at MSG and in Jersey. While I was getting a beer in Jersey, I ran into Johnny's mom. She stopped and chatted a bit when I told her how much we love Johnny here. After the game, Guy and her both stopped and chatted with us for a bit. Probably two of the nicest people I ever met.

Even if he overtakes Forsberg in points I don't think he'll be taking the Calder. I feel like Ekblad has that locked up.

That's a quality hairstyle right there. Nothing says style quite like a middle aged man with bald spots who gels his hair with the subtlety of a 12-year-old off to his first school dance.

I am not overly concerned with the Calder. Johnny has had a great year, we don't need a trophy to validate that.

Forsberg & Ekblad have had exceptional years. Forsberg did have 2 years of seasoning though, so I think Ekblad deserves it more. Jumps straight from Jr to the NHL and becomes a top pair D-man. Very, very impressive. More so than Forsberg playing on an Elite team and racking up points.

Ekblad does deserve it more. Amazing progression for a defensemen.

Watching the press he got on the US east coast this road trip makes me think he's got a good shot at the Calder no matter what happens in the next 17 games.

They seem to love him out east. Might be an example of that long standing bias finally working in favour of someone from our fold.

Johnny may be helped in the voting in that Klingberg might be taking some of Ekbkad's votes.
