The Team That Feaster Built
I think it's time to give credit where credits due. I was never a huge fan of Feaster when he was our GM but looking back on how he built this team I have to give the man some respect.
Here is a list of players that Feaster and his team drafted that have or are expected to make an impact on this organization: (I'm probably missing a few)
Baertschi, Granlund, Wotherspoon, Gaudreau, Sieloff, Gillies, Monahan, Poirier, Klimchuk
Players brought in from trades:
Byron, Ramo, Knight, Russell, Colborne, Smid
Signings - Hudler, Jooris, Brodie (2 year), Hartley
Feaster basically crafted this team from scratch and I'm amazed to see how well they are performing. He built a fast, competitive and exciting team to watch and ultimately succeeded in accelerating our rebuild.
Thank you Jay

Feaster & Weisbrod.
I think Weisbrod was the one that was a believer in drafting / signing players from the college ranks
So Jooris & Mony were probably because of him

Why not Thank King? He always seems to be missed. Brought Sutter in. Brought Jay in when realized Sutter had gone off on a bad path and brought in Burke to restructure whole Hockey Ops.
King is the constant since Button has been in charge of Amateur scouting.
And everyone seems to forget he took over when this team/organization was on the brink.
Never easy being in charge.

Lets wait to see how the rest of the season plays out before anointing him anything. The teams puck is incredible at the moment. And if it turns the other way, the Flames could look pretty bad, pretty quick.

There's no doubt he built a good team. How much of that was absolutely his doing is debatable. Tod Button is the head scout and therefore responsible for the drafting end of things. Most of what is being reaped now by the team is due to drafting...
Feaster made some good trades, but had his bonehead moments too. He gets a solid meh from me. The Oreilly (Oryley,Oriley, meh, I dunno) thing was potentially a massive blunder, but thankfully it didn't kill us long term.
Jay Feaster is just ok as a hockey person.

Because King wasn't in charge of doing the drafting, scouting or signings? He didn't assemble this team... Feaster and his team did, which is ultimately what this thread is about.

We need to give credit to Weisbrod and all the scouting staff for finding these players and for giving Feaster the advice to draft or trade for those players.

If this team does something big in the spring (goes on a little run) with a bunch of young kids and trade pieces that Feaster and co acquired, his critics are gonna be eating their feet.
I think Feaster made savvy decisions, despite not have the strict hockey background of other GMs. That's still impressive. And something Sutter (despite his undeniable skill and knowledge behind a bench) failed to do.

Feaster also beefed up the collegiate scouting in the east (at the behest of Weisbrod).

As Burke said when Feaster was let go: he's left an indelibly positive stamp on the team, and likely for years to come. Much of it can probably be attributed to Button and others as well, and he was obviously fired for a reason, but he nevertheless played a part in righting the ship.
Much of the meat and potatoes of Feaster's legacy with the Flames has yet to be written. How this current group of up and coming youngsters can gel, how picks like Poirier/Klimchuk and particularly Jankowski pan out, and how those sections of the roster that bear his fingerprints play a role in the coming years, will obviously determine how we're all talking about him 10 years down the road.

I just hope Feaster knows that we appreciate what he did, especially since he's out there tweeting that he always cheers for us and TB and is doubly happy when Edmonton loses.
How can you not love this guy!

I think Feaster has a good eye for talent and could be an effective scout in the NHL

Let's not forget Burke and Treliving. Engelland, Diaz, Bollig, Setoguchi, Hiller all major contributors to this team.
Thank you Burke and Brad for all you have done to help out the on-ice product.

I get that you are just trolling, so I shouldn't bother responding, but Hiller? Really?

But at the same time Button has been at the helm of head scout and drafting for quite a long time, but there is a noticeable difference in drafting quality from a majority of Sutter's tenure to Feaster's tenure. I doubt it's luck that's improved our drafting record.
Feaster is clearly responsible for some sort of change in philosophy. Whether it's just the fact that Feaster let Button make the choices without his input (as it's been rumoured that Sutter always had final say) or Feaster provided a new set of criteria, we'll probably never know, but something changed during Feaster's tenure to improve our drafting system.

I was happier with this thread giving kudos to Feaster. Setoguchi contributing ?
The most surprising and best thing I can say about Burke is that he hasn't wrecked anything yet. Hillier was good move. Colborne I'll give him too.
D. Sutter - you have to be joking - some buried plant shoots will usually grow nicely many years after the earth-razing fire.
