Default QOTD: 9 Games to go, who's the target?

Minnesota keeps on winning
The Kings keep on winning
Calgary playing non playoff teams but all of them on 7-3 runs coming into Calgary.

The number to get in keeps ticking upwards from what looked like 94 a month ago, to 95, to 96 and now perhaps 97.

Who are you eyeing as your target to get in?

Jets for me. They have the worst team of the 4 and the hardest schedule.

Last night was a night I had circled for Kings loss ...

I just don't see them missing any more as they are 2-0-0 on a tough 5 game road trip during a Calgary homestand that was supposed to give the Flames some breathing room.

The Wild ... home and cool
The Canucks ... went a long way with that win last night.

I think it's the Jets as the target now, as they are close, have a tough schedule and some injury issues. But it's a gritty team that seems to always find a way.

Want it to be the Canucks.

As far as I am concerned we're still competing with the Kings and it doesn't matter how many games they win as long as the Flames keep winning too. Unrealistic? Maybe. But I don't think the Kings are going to win all of their remaining 9 games either.

Today it's the Kings because we are ahead of them but tomorrow it could be the Jets.

Kings and Jets as we are in a virtual tie with both.

Whoever is at the bottom of the pack at any given time.

Beat one team. That's it. Doesn't matter who.

Jets. It's pretty obvious the Kings have turned things up like they typically do this time of year and IMO will likely surpass both the Flames, Jets, and possibly Canucks (seeing they have one more H2H). The Flames being 4 points behind the Canucks with no H2H matchup means it's very unlikely they catch them which leaves the Jets.

Winnipeg's next four games are against the Habs, Hawks, Rangers, and Canucks. Now there was a time when I would of looked at that as death row but seeing how the OOT scoreboard has been all month the best the Flames could hope for is them going 2-2 which leaves the door open for the Flames and then there's the H2H on the last game of the season for all the marbles.

All of this means nothing if the Flames don't take care of business as it appears that 97 points is now the minimum requirement.

Personally think that Vancouver, Minnesota and L.A. will make it in. That leaves Winnipeg. I will likely change my mind completely in a day or two.

Let's not discount what this team has done. If the playoffs started today, we would be in. If anything, we are LA's target. Win our games and there's nothing they can do.

That said, what we are after now is an insurance policy. In that regard, we aren't overtaking the Canucks, so the target is Winnipeg.

The last two games of the year against LA and Winnipeg are going to be doozies.

After the kings win and jets loss, the jets are the target now. Chances are this will bounce back and forth between the jets and kings the rest of the way.

Picked the Jets today because they are the team that lost last night. I figured the Kings would lose to NY on a back to back with the Rangers playing well and wanting to beat the team that they lost in the finals to last year.

This whole deciding who to cheer for/against is exhausting. I decided last night to watch the Flames games and let the rest work itself out. Firmly think the Flames can outpace one of these four and make it in.

Saying that. in five minutes I'm sure I'll go stare at the standing for the 10th time this morning.

I've been feeling for a while now, it is going to come down to the last 2 games against the jets and kings.

If we go into down by 2 points to either of them, then our destiny is in our hands, win both and we are in for sure.

It would be nice to go into those games either tied or up on both of them, then we only need to win one of those 2 games.

I think its the Kings - have to match them from here on out and I feel good that we can do that. Game 81 against them is likely the tipping point.

I think the Kings end up coming up just a bit short this year.
