QOTD: Who is the Flames number one goaltender?
Hiller had it and lost it. Ramo had it and lost it. Ortio came up and it looked like Ramo was done.
Now Ramo seems to have it, but a Hiller win tonight clouds things.
Who do you see as the "Guy" down the stretch and potentially starting in the playoffs?

I voted rotation. Whomever is hot, play him. The playoffs will be a bit more difficult to decide, as everything is reset. In my heart though, I think Ramo will get the call in the playoffs. Either way it's a fantastic ''problem'' to have. Ramo is better rebound control and is more athletic. Hiller is better positionally. I loved Kipper with all my heart, but it's nice to see the team not have to relay on one single guy in the net. We can swap in/out whomever is playing best without really missing a beat. I hope we do the tandem thing like this for the next couple seasons. We really lucked out this year on getting a quality duo.

Has to be rotation. They never seem to be hot at the same time but they've got the element of bailing each other out down to a science.

Said rotation. Both guys are good to great. Its a luxury to be able to swap them out when one goes cold.
Even in (crosses fingers) playoffs, I wouldn't mind keeping the current rotation.

Hartley has been saying it all season long. We have two number 1 goalies. He's going to ride whoever is hot.
It's not really rotation in this case, as either goalie could play 5 games straight. Even on back-to-back nights Hartley doesn't hesitate to put the hot goalie back in.
This method can become an issue in the playoffs when everything is amplified and the media will jump on the slightest bit of goalie controversy. Hopefully that doesn't end up being the case, but hey if it means we at least made the playoffs!

To be quite honest, I have no real confidence in Hiller. He has given up some ridiculously bad goals throughout the course of this year, and personally his style of play is not something I am very keen to. I like Ramo, do I think he is our new number #1... no, simply by the fact that he is somewhat inconsistent, yet his play is what I like, and have more confidence in him over Hiller. Ortio is exactly who I am waiting for this team to take the reigns, based on the fact that his play imitates Kipper's style, and well Kipper is my favourite flame of all time.
I picked rotation, play the goalie who is hot at the time and on a roll, it's been working throughout the season, so let's keep doing that. Plus the added bonus, if we make the ....... (I won't say it to jinx it) the better it is to have two goalies who are fresh and not overworked like Kipper's time playing 70 games.

Let's just say they have 1A and 1B. I love that we have two goaltenders who are capable of starting the game and not feel like a backup goaltender is playing.
I have to agree with everyone to play whoever the hottest goalie and make the goaltender earn their start. Not saying I am voting for Karri Ramo but it seems like everytime Jonas Hiller plays, he makes me uncomfortable but most of the time he does his job and prove me wrong all the time. I just feel like Ramo is more agile.

I voted rotation, but I'd prefer that the long term choice be Ramo.

I see Ramo as a goalie that is more likely to steal a game when he gets hot, but Hiller is the more consistent goalie with fewer peaks and valleys in his big picture performance..
Therefore, I think a rotation is the best system with Ramo being favoured on the road and when he is hot, and Hiller being favoured at home.

If you accept Hartley has a really good insight on this, it's a pure rotation, with Hiller having a very slight edge.
It's funny, I like them both but they also have weaknesses that make me nervous., for different reasons.
Hiller lets in short side goals, which I don't think is because he's bad, but rather because of the h-style of post play now advocated by a lot of goalie coaches. They play the odds, plus the ability to move across to cover passes. This leave the top shelf short side open more than before when they just hugged the post. The goals that do make it in look terrible, but goalie coaches seem to accept this as part of playing the percentages. I also think Hiller's glove is a bit weaker.
On the other hand Ramo moves too much for my liking, and slides right out of the crease a lot. I think his rebounds are a tad juicier. And he's a fair bit smaller, and I hate when he crouches to cover the post - there's so much room when he's in the back of the crease.
But right now both are playing quite well. So I'm pretty happy. It's actually better for the Flames if Ramo comes on strong because Hiller nets a better return in a trade IMO, being a non-UFA and more experienced.

Rotation has worked to near perfection thus far, why would they change it?

I'm on the phone and Tapatalk doesn't show me the poll
To add: I simply have more confidence in Ramo than in Hiller, who did go on one brilliant hot streak early in the season but had some stinkers since then. Ramo had one bad game vs Florida after an injury, but aside from that, I think he's been more solid and stable than Hiller.
I know that Ramo will probably be let go this summer and Hiller/Ortio will be the tandem next season, but it pisses me off. Would rather have Ramo/Ortio going forward.

It's going to be a rotation and the hot hand would likely get to start in the playoffs. I would feel better starting Hiller in the playoffs for the first game but Ramo has been pretty strong as of late so either way I don't think I would critique whatever decision Hartley makes.

Rotation with a 1a and a 1b. And the 1a and 1b thing depends on how they are playing. So right now Ramo is the 1a and Hiller is the 1b until Ramo has a bad game, generally speaking.
