How much do coaches make?
Heavy discussion here about how much coaches make (started by the ridiculous pay grade of NCAA basketball coaches).
So Quinville makes $2.75 MM, Babcock makes $2 MM, Claude Julien gets $2.5 MM, and Carlyle was being paid $2MM.
So how much does Bob make? Or early-stage coaches?

I hear they pay Oilers coaches with jogging pants and vouchers to Subway. Good thing they have going on up there.

My guess would be it varies VERY widely.
My total uneducated guess would be the low end is like $200k.
Interesting how quiet this detail is kept.

⬆ I think you're missing a zero. The trainer probably makes close to that.

Pretty sure the oilers staff are all unpaid interns hoping their charity buys good will with a real organization.
At least I hope Katz isn't paying for that ####.

Depends on the coach and their level of experience and resume. I know that Dallas Eakins was making $1 mil a year with a 4 year contract. Coaches like Alain V, Torts, Julien are around the $2 mil mark.
Some coaches a few years back such as Claude Noel from Wpg or some of the smaller market teams may have been $800-900k?? If I had to guess for Bob Hartley it would be $1.5 mil. Besides the Flames gig he hadn't coached since 2007 so I am not sure how much leverage he had but he has a strong resume from years past.
Coaches really do put in some serious hours considering the stress and the pay. Babcock is suppose to become #1 in terms of money so we will see what happens with him.

Most Athletic Therapists make in the $40-60k range at best. Some are as low as mid $30k range.
It's quite pathetic for the fact they need about 5 years of school to be certified by CATA/NATA to do the job. If the take the B.Kin route, that's not an easy course.

Best one was Tortorella, 5x2m with an 80% buyout if fired.
He made $8.4 million for coaching one year...Vancouver is no good.

So Ted Nolan makes over a million? It's not like he would have been driving a hard bargain.

Hired on a four-year contract at a reported $1-million a year, Eakins didn’t make it to Christmas of his second year with a .381 winning percentage and 36-63-14 record.

I remember hearing something about the contract which stated that he would be paid the remainder of the contract (3 mil) until he gets hired again in a coaching capacity.
Talk about a win-win for a guy with money in the bank and not a very high likelihood of being rehired soon.
Very no good indeed.

Gotta think that winning a cup bumps you into a higher bracket. I'd say he's around the $1.25-$1.5/yr range

I bet Toronto makes Babcock a Godfather offer of 5 million plus. This will reset what coaches are supposed to get paid. Would be interesting to see if this leads to coaching and scouting getting a salary cap.

I'm strictly guessing as well because when Torts got $2M/yr from Vancouver they said he was one of the top paid coaches in the league.
I agree with you, I'd bet it varies a lot.

Yeah, but at this point Babcock can write his own ticket. If he goes to Toronto or whatever that number could climb considerably.

I was chatting with a friend of a friend of Babcock. He basically said that Babcock is as good as gone in Detroit. That he's always wanted to coach in the biggest possible market (I. E. TORONTO or NYC- the Rangers are set with Vigneault so we speculated if this could also include Long Island and Montreal). Anyway, it has always been his goal to win a cup in a huge market and go down in history like the Scotty Bowman of this generation.

There's not a chance in hell he goes to Edmonton, no matter how much money they offered him. He's probably gonna end up in Toronto.
