So freakin' good. The vocals are amazing, and there's a great ethereal ambiance to the whole thing. My fav track so far is Nude (which I've wanted an album version of for a while now), but so many tracks are brilliant (15 step, Faust Arp, Reckoner, Videotape... well.. all of them, really )

I can't wait for my discbox, I want to listen to that second disc now!

Nude, Reckoner and Videotape are my favourite tracks after one listen. Reckoner in particular is an absolutely fantastic song!

Faust Arp almost feels like it was produced by George Martin. The string arrangement is just awesome.

Great stuff. It's always taken me a while to get into each new Radiohead album, even OK Computer - and they're one of my favourite bands. It's like I need to "get" it and then suddenly it clicks in a big way. That's how the best albums are, in my opinon. I've found that those albums that you throw on and like right away are usually not the ones that stick with you.

Two fast songs to start off, then it goes on a slow burn. The songs seem so distant, but absolutely warm and human - in contrast to Kid A/Amnesiac. I think I'm really going to like this album.

So did you guys pay for it? If so, how much? I haven't had a chance to get it yet, but will ASAP.

inrainbows.com

however, it looks like the overwhelming demand has crashed the site.

I just finished downloading it. Amazed at how fast it went (~1400 Kb/s). So far sounds very good!

Yeah, I was about to download it for free then got guilty... haven't downloaded it yet... not sure if I'll pay anything. They're my favourite band in the world, but honestly, I'd probably have just downloaded it free anyway if they weren't offering it free online. I might toss 5 pounds in.

Might actually be a decent strategy for them, a guy like me who would normally just get it for free is now contemplating paying for it... now that it's officially offered free... kind of wierd hey?

You could always go back and pay something for it... it's not like that's impossible

I bought the discbox set, so I guess I paid ~$81USD for it. But I'll be getting the second disc, vinyl, art/lyric books too. Plus, for the amount of enjoyment I get out of Radiohead over time, it's $80 well spent for me.

That's a tough one. It kinda sounds like Beck's Sea Change (also a Nigel Godrich produced album), but more Radiohead-ish. I kinda find it like The Bends with more of the OK Computer keyboards and ambiance of Yorke's The Eraser. If that makes any sense.

Wall Street Journal, Oct 3rd (on page C14), there is a write-up about how most people have been paying $10 for the download, and how that, in the paper's opinion, this is actually scamming the consumers.

The Journal says their estimated fair price is $3.40.

The article also goes on to say a CD normally costs $6.40 per unit to produce (seems high).

I've just got done listening to it and don't have a good answer. It's a beautiful combination of all of them?

Well that argument seems to fall flat since consumers could easily pay nothing. It's not like it says "pay what you like, but $10 is good."

I would have never bought or even downloaded this album for free, but I like the idea a lot, so I'll give them a little cash and give it a listen and see if I like it.
