Default Which of the Flames "established" 24/25 year old forwards are a part of the future?

Usually, there is a lot of turnover on rebuilding teams.

Also of note, we just had a GM change, and they usually like to bring in their own players, and the only one on this list acquired by the current GM is Shore.

That being said, these guys are young enough to still be a factor when/if this team turns the corner.

They are also a decent sized part of the culture being built right now. The never quit, work-your-butt-off culture that needs to be nurtured going forward.

So, which ones do you think/hope Treliving keeps as part of the core of what will hopefully become a Cup contending team?

1. C - Mikael Backlund - 25 -> 282 NHL games, 0.43 career PPG, 18:16 TOI this season
2. C/W - Lance Bouma - 25 -> 185 NHL games, 0.24 career PPG, 13:53 TOI this season
3. C/W - Joe Colborne - 25 -> 144 NHL games, 0.41 career PPG, 15:18 TOI this season
4. W - Paul Byron - 25 -> 137 NHL games, 0.34 career PPG, 14:30 TOI this season
5. C/W - Josh Jooris - 24 -> 49 NHL games, 0.41 career PPG, 14:48 TOI this season
6. C/W - Drew Shore - 24 -> 72 NHL games, 0.29 career PPG, 11:03 TOI this season

Maybe a POLL?

Personally, I can see the usefulness of every single one of them, but if the Flames do win a Cup in the next few years, I highly doubt all of them are a part of it.

Funnily enough, all of them but Backlund are RFA's this off season.

All but Byron. In an effort to get bigger Byron is gone. Jooris and Shore I'm on the fence.

I don't see room for Byron moving forward.
I think even Colborne, Jooris and Shore will be in tough to keep their jobs over the next few years, though I would certainly sign them all.
Backlund and Bouma should be key contributors for the foreseeable future.

Backlund and Bouma are locks as part of the core, they will be 2/3 of our third line when we win the cup.

Colborne, Jooris and Shore are up for debate. I really like all three but I'm a complete homer. I could see one of the three playing RW on aforementioned 3rd line....the other 2 are likely gone. That being said Jooris I could see as a 4th liner.

Unfortunately I agree that Byron won't be part of the team. I really like him (see reason above ie. that I'm a homer) but it just doesn't make sense.

Bouma for sure. Backlund second. Then Byron and Jooris. Haven't seen enough from Colborne or Shore to give them long term deals yet.

I like what I've seen with Shore over his very small sample size. I don't think he's going anywhere for a while. I could see him surpassing Jooris as far as what he consistently brings, including faceoffs. Jooris has been lights out at times, but also a bit of a time filler at others.

Long-term: Backlund and Bouma
On the fence, but leaning towards yes: Colborne and Jooris
No idea: Shore (small sample size)
No: Byron

I think they all have a chance at sticking around, outside of Byron (may stay as 13th forward).

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Granlund-Bennett-Poirier
Bouma-Backlund-Shore
Ferland-Arnold-Jooris

Obviously there will be new players I can't slot in yet and some guys like Stajan and Raymond that might not be moved out but I could see all of them having a role.

All six. Hurts to see people writing off Byron. He might lack in size, but his play style is very much a part of the Flames' success with the way he can be put on any line as a jump start. I also feel Wolf and Hathaway are going to find playing time on the squad next year.

Gone, I see are Bollig, Stajan, Raymond, and Jones.

All of them but Byron imo. I like Byron, if he wants a better opportunity, it won't be here.

Think Colborne is one of the guys that eventually gets moved, while Byron has been good, don't think he can last with all the youth coming up.

I don't think anybody writes him off, it's just more of a numbers game. Simply no room for him going forward.

The Flames need Bouma and Backlund right now. I like Backlund but I could see him being dealt in the future. All of the others are good players with potential but are not a part of the core of the team. If Chicago could jettison Byfuglien, Versteeg, Bolland and Ladd and still keep their core and identity as a team, we could do the same with all of these guys really. They just aren't our key guys even though they all have an important role with the squad right now (except Shore who is still finding his way).

Colborne isn't going anywhere, he is one of the few with size. Its basically his second year in the NHL give the kid some time

Colborne I don't see being a Flame for a long time. He will carve out a career as a journeyman who teams pick up for size and a warm body @ the tail end of training camps and trade deadlines.

Backlund: The Flames need him for the foreseeable future, but could be trade bait in 2-3 years depending on the emergence of Bennett and others.

Bouma: Keep him until he can't play anymore.

Byron: This could go either way, he might be an odd man out as soon as next year or he could be a long-term Flame. He is an effective 4th line guy and if you can squeeze some more goals out of him he becomes a valuable player.

The other 2 have too small of a sample size to judge.

Shore needs to show he belongs, which I suspect will happen over the remainder of this season and into next season. Otherwise Backlund, Bouma, Colborne, and Jooris should be part of the mix going forward.

I don't see Hathaway in the NHL next year. Wolf needs to improve his skating a lot to keep up with the others on your list.

You may lose a couple of the older guys on your list but I don't see losing them all, unless you weren't talking about next year any more. PLus, I don't think you want only Hudler as a seasoned vet up front. Eventually they all get moved, probably in order of Raymond, Bollig, Jones and Stajan.
