Has anyone been watching this? New comedy put out by Bruce McCulloch depicting life growing up in Calgary in the 80's.

I would imagine the s/o and I likely have a bit more interest in it than most as the show has largely been filmed in our condo complex. Even got to watch many of the scenes being filmed from our living room window.

First few episodes were a bit cringe worthy but seems like the cast may be hitting its stride now as the last couple have been pretty good.

Curious to hear what others who have seen the show think.

I grew up in the 80s close to the condo complex where it's filmed, so it scores for nostalgia and familiarity.

But man, the production values are low. First season of Trailer Park Boys low. There was a scene at a party that was supposed to be in 1980, but I guess they couldn't round up any extras with long hair so it looked like a party in 2015 with a few cans of old-school beer laying around. Same thing with the jock bullies in the show - nothing like jock bullies from back in the 80s.

And the two lead characters are too similar to one another in appearance and demeanor. I think one is supposed to the sympathetic lead character and the other his dim-witted buddy, but they're both pretty much smart-asses who look and behave a lot alike.

I think if they really want to go cheesy 80s retro, they have to go all the way and make it a full-blown satirical cheese-fest. As it is, it just watches like a bad sit-com from the 80s with terrible production values. I'll give it another shot just out of curiosity, but it needs to get a lot funnier.

I watched the first episode. It didn't do much for me. The best part was the Jamie Macoun cameo as one of the guys in Flames jerseys at the barbecue (which no one would have had in the early summer of 1980).

I also grew up in Braeside in the 80s, but I was about a decade behind McCulloch. I walked through Brae Glen on my way to Jr High many times. Andy Moog lived there when he was on Team Canada during the Olympics. Funny to see the old neighbourhood, but the high school was definitely not Scarlett (looked like Central Memorial).

They are doing the school scenes at a school in Queensland.

Watched the first episode and it made me want to never watch another, regardless of where it has been filmed.

Neither funny nor interesting, IMO.

Is this any good? I will admit I flipped past it rather quickly when I saw the PG rating.

I love the old Kids in the Hall gang, and a show about Calgary in the eighties would be right in my experience obviously, but I'm probably not going to like it if it's too family oriented.

Part of the appeal of Kids in the Hall was the fact it WAS edgy.

Not sure I'd call it family oriented at all. Not quite edgy either though.

It's not bad. Last couple episodes had some chuckles. First 4, pretty meh. I do like the effort they put into props. Lots of stuff from the 80's I'd totally forgotten about.

It's pretty good. Hesitate to say that Bruce is the biggest disappointment of the show. The kids are good but Bruce playing his dad has to be weird. His kith skits are legendary so it's tough to compare. But I agree with goin' that it's in a precarious limbo, like stuck between modern family and trailer park boys

Really? I thought he was one of the stronger ones. I didn't really watch much Kids In the Hall so can't compare to his other work though.

Him, his daughter and Shinki I think are the better characters.

Yeah it pained me to say it and I even saw his book reading this fall which was great. His role in kids in the hall was epic though some of the best material ever (YouTube kith squash, one of the first kids skits).

I'll forever be a fan though. If you ever get the chance to see Dave foley do standup, you gotta do it

I know a lot of people are focusing on location shots and 80s references but I find the writing of the show to be really good. Been a fan since the pilot.
