The recent drop in Flames' scoring on our road trip had me wondering what's going on with our offense. A couple of things came to mind:
- It looks like our offense has been scouted pretty well at this point and our stretch break-out passes and neutral zone drop passes are getting picked off.
- We don't often get set up in the offensive zone which limits our chances to score to opportunities generated off the rush
- Who's getting our garbage goals this year?
The last point I think is an area where the team really could really improve. Perhaps my understanding of the game was crippled by years of crapulence in the late 90's early 2000's where it seemed the only type of goals (except for Iggy) we tried for were dump-and-chase-crash-the-net-anything-can-happen goals, but I can't shake the feeling that if we could recapture some of that playing style it would do a lot to help us get into the playoffs, especially when we haven't been great at defending two-goals leads as of late.
Anyone seeing the same thing? What are your thoughts on our offense this season?
