Leafs trade David Clarkson to Blue Jackets for Nathan Horton
Leafs PR @LeafsPR
The @MapleLeafs have acquired forward Nathan Horton from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward David Clarkson. #TMLtalk
never thought Toronto would get rid of that contract.
Also guessing Horton is done.

Wow. So with the injury, does Horton just stay on LTIR until retirement?

Can they? They just retained 50% on their last trade. I thought they had retianed salary in another deal too earlier. I just cannot remember it is was two or three trades you were permitted to retain salary on.

It buys them 6 million in cap space because of that LTIR. Assuming no retention.

I suspect Horton is either going to be "permanent" LTIR like Pronger or will retire.

Daaaaaaamn. Although Clarkson's contract is atrocious, having someone able to play is probably a big steal for the Blue Jackets.

Even though they had to trade it for a player not likely to ever play again, TO somehow getting rid of the Clarkson deal ticks me off.

Id be amazed if Toronto didn't retain a fair bit of salary in this deal. Or maybe the fact Horton may well not play again was enough?

Well if Columbus is going to be paying all that money might as well use it on a guy who's actually playing.

Not sure why he would retire, unless he is paid out in some manner. As an under 35 guy, how does retirement affect the cap?
