Default North Korea Linked Sony Hack

http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/...ver/ar-BBgWi4n

After being dupped to see the piece of trash "Neighbour", I think any ban on showing Rogen's movie is a gift to humanity. However, if a back water country like North Korea can do this to a big business like Sony, it doesn't sit too well to the developed world.

Yeah, I think caving in to threats like they're doing seems like a pretty horrible precedent to set.

Is it Sony actually caving to the threat, or is it that the theatre companies simply don't want to put their staff at risk over a stupid movie?

They said on the news that the threats to the theatres were legitimate. Scary stuff.

Legitimate like the threat of nuclear war NK threatens every single year? Sony set a terrible precedent and I hope they take a huge financial hit because of this.

If America, as a sovereign nation, starts to bow down to this then it sets a bad precedence and is a prelude to other situations that will follow. Allowing a few hackers to bully an entire nation will only invite more bullying further down the road as it legitimizes hacking and empty threats as a strategy to achieve political goals. US should force the distribution of this movie for free just to prevent this type of thing from happening since Sony no longer plans to sell the movie. Sony has nothing to lose from doing this. Damage has already been done.

There's also another thread on this already.

An attack on a theater would be an act of war. They may be insane posturing fearmongers, but I can't see them being that dumb, or even being capable of launching any sort of attack on US soil.

how is this a few hackers bullying a sovereign nation?!?

Isn't this a few hackers bullying a corporation? Which is something many companies have to deal with and spends tons on IT security to battle ever year?

I thought the theme of the movie itself was in poor taste, so couldn't care less about the movie being shelved. What this does show is that corporations better be smarter about how they protect themselves from cyber attackers, as it sure seems like extortion is just around the corner if these kind of juicy tidbits come out from online hacks.

Most corporations aren't going to be able to successfully defend their networks from State sponsored hackers with strong motive. Even if it's a ####ty nation like North Korea.

When the hackers are linked to a nation state, and the resources of a national state, while attacking the resources and infrastructure (corporations) of another. Couple this w/ threats of a 9/11 style attack on the American soil, is this not an attack on a nation's sovereignty?

Kim Jong Un temper tantrums can now cause real damage over slight or satire.

Sony may have pulled "The Interview" in wake of hacker threats, but at least one movie theater isn't letting North Korea off the hook. The Alamo Drafthouse is planning to run "Team America: World Police" in its place at its Dallas/Forth Worth location.

I'm thinking there is more damning information that hasn't come out yet that they are hoping won't get released if they stop the film.

Is it possible Sony is not "caving in", but using this as an awesome marketing tactic? If, in a month or two or three, they decide to release this movie and spin it as "we as Americans are going to stand up to these threats, we don't take sh*t from nobody", I would expect a massive number of people lining up to see the movie. Even if people are legitimately scared now (which I imagine is not many people. *Bad things don't happen to "me". If NK is going to attack a theatre it'll be some other theatre, not the one I'm at*).. even if they are scared, give them a few weeks or months and no one will care. our attention spans are too short. But people could really get on the "go see this movie and stick it to North Korea" bandwagon

Not really that scary, they don't sound too worried about it.

Sony should just release the movie for free on the internet.

A threat is a threat. Would anyone put their lives in however small danger just to see a new film by Seth Rogen no less? This might affect the entire cinema business over this holiday season.

Lots of hate for Seth Rogen. I love the guy. I think he's hilarious.

That being said, I watch most movies at home. I can wait. The comfort of my home over a movie theatre is worth is.

Only 1 movie will get me out to a theatre next year...just under a year from now.

CC knows...

Sony should sell the movie to Netflix who could then charge your account extra if you want to watch the movie.

Maybe one day Netflix will drive movie theaters out of business as well...

Yeah I'm sure Netflix wants to invite hackers to take them down too. No company is touching this movie with a 50 foot pole. If anything Sony might use this to try and bring down torrent sites by leaking the movie there and hoping hackers shut those sites down.
