Scott Hartnell?
Got a little chirp via text that there might be some interest.(I will admit my sources aren't great these days ) I think he mostly plays LW which isn't the best fit IMO.
But whatever. If he is in play what are your thoughts?

I like Hartnell, and i do think we need some size and snarl in the lineup, but i don't think this is in line with the direction the team wants to go- he's gettin' old, and has never been a great skater.

I wish.
This doesn't need a thread does it?
He is a good player, a little old for what the Flames are doing and fits into a position where they are deep.
What would a deal look like? Is he a bad contract that would be accompanied with something else? What would Flames give up to get him?
He is an upgrade on GlenX. If he is available why wouldn't teams interested in GlenX go after him?

Funny, I thought of this as well and then I looked it up and saw 4 more years at $5m per as a pretty good reason.
Personally I would say..stay far away but I won't be shocked if it happens either.

Love Hartnell and as a player would be a great addition for the flames. As for contract no thanks. Blue jackets would have to eat some money.

He would be an ideal player to add down the stretch IMO and the way he plays the game + his age has yet to slow him down from his +40 points per season average - currently at 39 - The only thing tough to take is his term and if we could grab an extra pick out of the deal or have CBJ foot some of the bill I'd be all over a trade involving Hartnell. Mega upgrade on Glencross IMO and he would bring with him some lengthy playoff experience to boot!

If Columbus moves out Hartnell right now I highly doubt they eat salary or add picks.

Would be an awesome add if Calgary could snag him, but im not sure Kekalainen has any appetite to move him, so it's not gonna be a cheap pickup.
More over, if Treliving is "adding" anything at this point it should probably be a Dman...though a tough gritty winger like Hartnell would be good too.

I think he'd be a good role model for players like Sam Bennett and Emile Poirier. Talented guy who plays with a nasty edge.

I'd only be interested if he has gotten his haircut. In the past he looked like a freak and I could tell I did not like him or the music he listened to

Why is this in its own thread and not the trade speculation one? Is there legit rumors about this?

Completely, unequivocally disagree.
If he doesn't have that hair, he is of no interest.

I agree. That said I wonder if they would want a return like they sent to Philly to acquire him? A guy with a little less term.
Stajan for Hartnell? Columbus gets a player making less money and 2 years less term. Granted Hartnell is the better player by far, but it's more about future $'s for Columbus.
