Default Anybody wear a toupee?

So have these things come a long way at this point? I never spot any out in the wild - maybe people don't wear them anymore, or maybe they are good enough that I don't notice them.

I started losing my hair around 30. I keep it buzzed on a number 2 now and am perfectly happy with it; however, every so often it might be nice to throw on a rug to hit the town. Kind of like how a guy with hair might experiment with a different hairstyle every now and then.

Anybody wear one? Good places to try a few on? Are they just a big joke, or are there reasonable options?

I only know one guy who wore a toupee and the only reason I know he wore one was because he had a stroke and stopped wearing it one day.

Know a guy that does wear them. He seems happy. It's secured to his head with a glue and you cannot notice it unless you know. So yes they have come along way.

At age 30 plus I'd just role with the shaved head and make up for hair loss by working out. Personally I'd be more uncomfortable with being exposed or the thing falling off, but to each their own.

Have you thought about hair plugs?

Oh I do roll with it - doesn't bother me at all. Just might be nice to have other options sometimes. How old is the guy you know that wears one?

They must not be very common because you don't even see toupee jokes on sitcoms anymore. I've seen three "merkin" jokes in the last year, but not one toupee joke.

I assumed the growing acceptance (even hipness) of shaved heads made toupees obsolete.

I wonder this, too. If you were a balding guy in the '70s or '80s, you didn't have a lot of good options for still looking cool. Now, that's a complete non-issue. It's the golden age for bald guys.

If I were to buy a toupee, I doubt I'd be browsing around the buzzed #2 horseshoe-patterned bald guy aisle. Probably would opt for something a little longer...guess I won't know until I try a few on, though.

seeing Phil Spector and his cavalcade of bad wigs should be enough to scare anyone away from the idea:
