Valentines day gifts/ideas?
Hey CP,
Valentine's day is upon us.....
This day used to mean a lot more effort/expenditure when i was younger/dating. Being married , with one kid, another on the way, a mortgage, expenses, difficult to find baby sitter situation, etc, it means something very different.
So curious what do folks in my demographic (30s, married, kids) do on valentines day? Take her out for a nice dinner, get a gift, just flowers/candy, etc??
what are you doing?

I tell every girl I date that I refuse to acknowledge valentines day. Usually a good litmus test if they're worth keeping around.
Then I surprise them with something small.

I'm in your demographic.
We do absolutely nothing. We both appreciate how completely ridiculous the contrived holiday is.

Currently seeing up a clue hunt for her to do with our little guy to take her through all the rooms of the house I've deep cleaned while she's at work

In all seriousness, I am getting my wife an iTunes card.
She just got an iPhone, i have told her to buy some music for it, but she won't.
This will push the point and she will be more inclined to buy herself some songs.

we've planned a nice dinner out about 3 v-days in a row, and end up cancelling and just grabbing some junk food that we love (ie. mcdonalds), putting the kid to sleep and watching a movie or the current show we're into. I'll usually grab flowers and a card. feel like a lazy, cheap ####### for it, but she doesn't seem all that disappointed, and sort of agrees with your sentiment...

it means a lot more when you do something on the other 364 days of the year that aren't sponsored by Hallmark.

That's not what mistresses are for. I think you are mistaken...

Thankfully my wife hates valentines day, she thinks it's mindless consumerism at it's finest. She says as long as I can continue to be spontaneously romantic throughout the year she couldn't really care less if I even say 'happy valentines day'. I laugh at the poor saps lining up to buy jacked up baubles for their sweeties because society has conditioned them into thinking they need to. Flowers for $50 when they were $12 a week ago.... lol what a scam.

I think the biggest thing with Valentine's Day is to find out which love language your SO 'speaks' and do something for her according to that.
