Cory Conacher
Once touted a favorite for the Calder by Bobby Mack, Cory Conacher is stuck trying to get back into the NHL:

Quote:
Near the end of that regular season Tampa Bay, in desperate need of a goalie, swapped him to Ottawa in exchange for Ben Bishop. The deal was a heist for the Lightning — Bishop is now one of the NHL's best netminders.
Conacher, though, never fit into his new systems. In 2013-14 he contributed just four goals and 16 assists with Ottawa. The Senators then put him on waivers, and Buffalo took him. Nineteen games with the Sabres netted three goals and three assists.
"I don't know. He's a good player, very offensive. I think timing and where you get an opportunity, I think, makes a difference,'' Crunch captain Mike Angelidis said of Conacher, his former teammate. "I think in this business a lot of it has to do with timing, getting put in the right spots, and how things work out. You see a lot of skilled guys that don't make it. They never got a chance. It just all depends. There's a lot of factors that come into it.''
Can Conacher find one more coach, one more organization to really buy into his game?

Call me crazy but I would love to see this guy beside Gaudreau for a few shifts... and say a Colborne to make up for the size issue.

I really liked him when he made the Lightning back then. Nice combination of skill and tenacity. For a little player, I thought his game was pretty reckless in a good way ... always crashing the net, standing in front of the goalie on the PP trying to deflect pucks. He fit that team and the system nicely, but was eventually made expendable because Johnson, Palat and others dominated the AHL and pushed for roster spots. Didn't see him a lot in Ottawa and Buffalo, but it seems he hasn't fit in.
I would take a flyer on him if we didn't have quite a few small guys already, but as it stands, there's simply no room for another small forward IMO.
EDIT: and oh man, that Conacher-for-Bishop trade looks like highway robbery now. Jesus.

The last thing the Flames need is another small winger. Huge pass

Lightning sure sold him at the perfect time. Basically landed Bishop for free.

Would be pretty funny if it was the Sens demanding Conacher in the deal.

I'd be almost certain they were. His stock was so high then, only Tampa locals likely realized he was starting to flag.
And as with everyone else, pass. Conacher doesn't offer anything we don't already have too much of.

Maybe if it was something like the Setoguchi low risk 'redemption' contract, only this guy I'd start in the AHL first.
So no.

And to think that they even asked for Couturier ... unbelievable. Murray is a heck of a GM, this one's a steal for Ottawa.

... oh well, at least I was right about the Forsberg trade
