Default Threat against Calgary High Schools

Just saw this

Quote:
Officers are investigating an emailed threat made against 20 Calgary high schools last Thursday, in which someone wrote they wanted 200 bitcoins–a type of digital currency– sent to them, or they would put explosive devices in the schools
Quote:
Centennial High School and Bishop Carroll High School were two of the schools who received threats. In a letter sent home to Bishop Carroll parents, Principal Neil O’Flaherty said “the potential threat was not immediate” and that police presence will be increased “around and throughout the school.”

Imagine trying to explain bitcoins to the relics that are management at these high schools. You'd probably be begging for an attack by the end of it.

"Its a what?"
"Now where do I log in to my bank account to see how many bit dollars I have?"
"Can I write him a cheque instead?"

What the hell does that even amount to in terms of real money? Is it like $200?

And what brilliant criminal genius is blackmailing high schools? Moriarty's bratty teenage nephew?

Probably a student trying to find a way to shut down school for a day so he can sag off.

FWIW, 200 bitcoins would be approximately $55,500 CAD.

They've been talking about this for a few days on several social media groups I watch. Seems like they gave specific dates for when this threat was to be carried out - and those dates were when the kids were going to be out of school already (Family Day, teacher convention or some such).

Regardless, what a tool this person/these people are.

Should be 20 schools, not just high schools. My kids go to one of them. Threat is supposed to be for this Friday.

I hope this is just a stupid prank and RCMP finds the perpetrators. But, if it isn't a stupid prank... people that are really capable of intentionally planting a bomb in a school, or any other place populated by innocent bystanders should be wiped out from the face of this planet...

That's a lot of coin! Were bit coins always this high or have they increased in value a lot?

Some clown called in a bomb threat at my high school last year. It was on the Friday of May Long. We had loaded up my buddy's truck with all our lake gear between 1st and 2nd period (we planned on leaving before lunch) and left it in the parking lot.

Then we took my car to a gas station to buy darts. Big mistake.

We get back to the school after being gone for about 15 minutes and suddenly the entire student population is on the grass field across the street and firetrucks are all over the place. At first we thought it was just a fire, but suddenly a dozen or so cop cruisers come ripping down the street and they start moving the kids into the soccer centre across the road.

Of course, me and my friends could care less as we've got a fun weekend ahead of us, so I casually drive around back behind the school and a uniformed officer steps in front of my vehicle. He tells us to turn around or he's taking my car. #### that noise. I ask him what the deal is and he explains to us that there is a potential bomb threat and they have to seal off the parameter. I told him we were in the process of leaving for the lake and asked if we can grab the truck with all our gear in it. He just said "sorry boys, you'll have to wait this out."

Two hours pass, we're in the parking lot of the soccer centre watching this whole thing unfold when my dick of a gym teacher spotted us and basically told us to get inside the soccer centre with the rest of the school or we weren't graduating. So we begrudgingly complied. The general consensus was that there was no bomb, although at that point I was kind of hoping there was so they could detonate it and let us get on with our day.

The inside of the soccer centre resembled a displaced persons camp. So much confusion and paranoia. The teachers forced us to get our friend's mom to physically escort us out of the building and to my vehicle which was parked literally 100 metres from the front entrance.

We went to my house. An hour later, we received the automated text confirming what everybody knew all along - there was no bomb. We got to the lake just before sundown. It was still a great weekend.

TLDR; May Long got delayed by 5 hours. People that phone in fake bomb threats can shove it up their ass. Nobody likes you and nobody thinks you're funny.
