Corey Potter is not on the ice this morning. Nor is Doug Carr.

No point keeping him up if he wasn't going to play. Makes sense.

Heard on the FAN this morning that Treliving was saying Wotherspoon was going to start playing again, if not in the NHL, then in the AHL. Looks like the decision was made.
A bit disapointing to have him up here and not see him, but with the NHL and AHL all star breaks, I don't think he missed a ton of playing time (someone can correct me on that) and practicing with the team does have value. I guess no one on our D has played themselves out of a position and there is just no room for him right now.

Too bad we never got to see him play, but the team is winning and Diaz is playing great so don't mess with the chemistry. At least he was able to make an NHL salary for a bit and practise with the team.

He missed one AHL game while being in Calgary. Collected an NHL paycheque for a week and got to spend some time practicing with the big club, at least.

To be able to practice with the NHLers is beneficial to the prospects. I think a lot of us (including myself), would overlook that and just think it's a waste of time calling them up and not even playing them. They still get valuable experience/practices even if they aren't playing the game.

Came to say this ^.
Also, meeting with the coaches and GM is huge. "We see what you're doing down there, keep it up, you'll get your chance"
When other guys are getting call-ups and you're not, it would start to get to you. Being called up for a week would be a huge boost for him.
A week of no games in the middle of the season will probably rejuvenate him as well.
He'll be playing here soon enough.

Enoch Root, this little high level training session for him I am sure will help him and give him a huge boost in his playing. I will be watching a little bit more closely to see how he plays heading back to Addy.
But I think having Potter sitting in the press box is better than Spoon sitting in the press box for a few games until Smid is back.
Good management by Treliving here.

maybe reading between the lines, but it sounds like Treliving wanted him to play for big club, but Hartley didn't...so he sent him back down (wisely).

I would hope Hartley and Treliving have better communication than that. I'm fairly certain they talk about the roster quite a bit so one hand knows what the other is doing.

I think that might be a little too much between the lines. More likely, they probably thought with the injury to Smid, that it was a high probability that they'd end up using him, but as others pointed out Diaz stepped up and took away that chance, so they send him back.

Sportak made a good point. For the last week Russell has been questionable with illness. Likely Witherspoon was here in the case Russell could not go.

Gotta remember that any time there is hint of an ailment or a player is a GTD, it's in the clubs best interest to have extra bodies in town. Adirondack being so damn far away is a huge PIA

I'd like to see Potter in action as well. Diaz has claimed the #5 spot with Smid out, imo. Perhaps a Diaz/Potter combo would be less of a trainwreck.

This exactly! It takes players almost an entire day to get from Adirondack to Calgary. It's not like Abbotsford where an emergency call up takes only 2 hours to get here.
If something were to happen where Hiller and Ramo both couldn't go tonight, Ortio wouldn't make it up in time if they called him after 11am (I believe that's what's I figured out before as the absolute last minute call). Our starting goalie would be Brent Krahn or something.

Final pairing has been better of late and the team is playing well and winning games.
Don't mess with a winning line-up. At least that's my view.

No problem with that as well. Just curious about Potter, and whether he is worth a contract for next year. I can't imagine teams beating his door down with offers, but it would be nice to see how he fits in.
