QOTD: What will the Flames do with Sam Bennett?
I realize there's a topic already, but this is certainly a burning issue and qualifies for a poll.
What do they do in 10 days or so when it's time to make the call on Bennett?

I think the Flames will plan to put him in a game or two and he runs with it.

Tough one. Personally I think he should go back to junior. That being said they sure seem to be setting him up for a run in the NHL. Hard not to see him on the Flames this year.

I said straight to minors but it depends how rehab goes. It's going well but I don't think there's a huge rush. I think at the very most, he gets a couple of games but I still think he stays in the minors.

I picked option 2 by mistake. I feel that when they think he's 100% they will send him to junior to finish the season there.

If I was the GM, I'd send him down to Addy for a two week conditioning stint. If he struggles, then you obviously send him to juniors. If he plays well, bring him up, give him his nine games and then go from there.

He can't stay in the minors. He can only do a conditioning stint.
He can stay in juniors though.
I voted what I think the Flames will do. Not what I'd do.

If I was the GM, I would send him straight back to junior no questions asked. However, I do think the Flames will give him a couple of games at the pro-level before they do so...perhaps a few games in the AHL and then a couple up here.

If it was my call, once he is cleared I would send him back to Junior.

My bad, I meant he'll go straight back to junior and stays there. I think he'll lead his team and I'd love to see him make a run at the memorial cup. I don't think there's a need for him to play in the NHL this year and I think management will agree.

I think he's missed enough time that he should go back to the OHL right away. We can reevaluate him in the next preseason.

Back to the OHL. See you next training camp Sam, hope you stay healthy and make the team at that time.

one has them giving him a courtesy game the other a true 9 game trial to see if makes sense to keep him.

No way they send him straight back to junior. He made the team out of camp and they're going to give him a look in the AHL and if he looks good, he'll get some games with the big club. THEN they might have a really tough decision.

I worded this as what do you think they will do on purpose to avoid the what we each think argument. I'd hope these guys are smart enough to let the player decide though. I really believe the best thing for him is junior, and that would be my leaning if I was them, but the AHL stint then evaluate may open the door for him play a game at the NHL level.
Key is to not be close minded in my opinion.

I say straight to NHL. Only because after his 9 games he'll force their hand to stay because the kids the real deal.

What exactly is the rush to getting him in the NHL?

I don't think there's a rush and I doubt management does either. What does that have to do with what I posted? It's hard to know what's going to serve his development best without pushing and testing him, and that's why they're going to go step by step and see how he looks and handles it. He earned that in camp as I believe Treliving (or was it Hartley?) said he made the team.
If they think that it's going to serve his development best by playing in the NHL, then I trust their assessment of that. Helping the team is a byproduct.
