QOTD: What did you make of Wolf?
less cerebral today, but a quick view of Wolf in his first game?
2 periods before injury, 7 1/2 minutes of ice time. 16 shifts, one shot, one cross bar.
No speed demon but he got around the ice.
Thoughts?

Couldn't watch the whole thing, but he seemed slower than Engelland by my eye

Yeah, but not too quickly....
I think his speed will limit him from being much more than a 4th line guy. Maybe the type of guy you can put in the front of the net on the PP or something but I thought he looked a bit too slow for this team. Would be glad to be wrong.

I thought he had a pretty solid first game. His skating definitely needs improvement, but other than that I liked him.

Honestly only caught glimpses of him during the game so can't say I noticed him a whole lot. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, I hope we get to see him at least once more.

He seemed to be in the right place when he needed to be. Maybe the mountain air got to him.

He still has much to learn about the NHL game. That said, he already has the necessary attributes to play an effective 4th line role. He has the grit, toughness and passion to have success, but I was also impressed with his couple speed bursts that led to open ice and good scoring opportunities.

I liked what I saw, but the sample size is much, much too small to make any kind of prediction for the future.

I liked him, I liked him a lot. Not only was he not quick, he was slow but that really didn't matter too much. He was in the right place at the right time, played a solid game and had his chances. I'd like to see him on a regular basis.

Don't want to call him a "scrub" or rush to judgement, but my first impression was that he was slow.
Unless you are a Dave Andreychuk type, that's a major problem for a top 6 forward.

Who expects him to be a top 6 forward?

I certainly don't think anybody expects Wolf to be a top 6 forward.
Looked good to me, positionally sound and I honestly didn't think he looked overly slow at all.
Then again, small sample size.

To small of a sample size to really have an opinion on his play other then I thought he was pretty good. I thought when he came down on the wing and ripped that shot on goal he showed a decent burst of speed. His foot speed didn't seem to be an issue for me while watching him while sitting my ass at home on my couch, but those at the Dome probably could tell much better.
It'll take him time to get into the groove of things but I thought he did decent for a guy who has played mostly German hockey his entire career. Never noticed he hit the crossbar. That would have been sweet if he scored.

Scoring Winger

Good shot, good hockey instincts, gets where he has to, aggressive.
Looks strange while skating, could use improvement in that and needs some conditioning. It was mentioned before, sticking him in front of the net on PP could be a good idea. Too early to tell, but he was good for his first NHL game. Would like to see him again.

You just can't judge a player, good or bad, on his first game. Adrenaline and excitement can make a player look better than what they will turn out to be and sometimes nerves can do the opposite.
He had a nice release on his one good shot and he used the body well a couple times.

This is why I think most people say he is slow, I did not find him slow at all and not blazing fast but middle of the road average speed. I am pleasantly surprised by him and want to see a few more games.
