Flames Van & Cgy have similar matchups over the next 5 games

With us tied for points it may be interesting to watch the next 5 games closely to see how we match up. Kind of cool we are pretty much playing the same teams. Even though Vancouver has a few games in hand, whoever does well over this stand will be in that 3rd playoff spot for the short term.

I'm not suggesting it really means anything, but thought it would be fun to watch this play out.

Advantage flames as we get EDM over ANA

Van:

team: ANA - BUF - MIN - WPG - SJS - PIT
date: 1/27 -1/30- 2/1 - 2/3 - 2/5 - 2/7

Cgy:

team: BUF - MIN - EDM - WPG - SJS - PIT
date: 1/27- 1/29- 1/31 - 2/2 - 2/4 - 2/6

Vancouver is also in a offensive tailspin. They've scored only 12 goals in their last 7 games and Miller has been hot/cold. Some of their forwards like Bonino have had their incredible shooting % drop. Good time for the flames to take advantage

Let's hope the Flames lay a beating on Winnipeg, San Jose and Pittsburgh, so they come out for the bounce back vs the Canucks

Yup. The Canucks get 22 or 23 of those this year - more than half of all their home games

I'm sure the Canucks still whine up a storm about how unfair it is that they have to travel from a geographically remote location all the time to try and get these schedule perks.

why is it that they always seem to get to play the teams after they play us or Edmonton, so they get a tired team who played the night before. I really don't like that part of this schedule.

At least we are at home and have an advantage there. This will be an interesting stretch that is for sure.

Does anyone have any data on how teams perform on the 2nd night of back-to-backs relative to their usual winning percentage? Are b2b games really a big deal anymore with modern conditioning?

I think the back to backs in Western Canada are pretty equal. Lots of teams hit Calgary before they go to Edmonton and vice versa.

I did it a few years ago and there is a drop in winning % on the second night. Worse in the road too

Not 100% sure but I think it is in the 14 range. 22 sounds about right for Vancouver and I do not believe any other team in the league is above 20. They put up a graphic during HNIC before Christmas but I just can't remember the details.

Likely a bit better for Vancouver than other places as most back to backs on the road would be shorter travel distance than Calgary-Vancouver.
