Taxpayer funded? Looks like a giant waste of money either way.

I'm amazed they have barely started building it and it's already $200 million over budget. Could be a $2 billion stadium by the time it's actually built.

I'm amazed at how projects like that always run over budget and still get paid for.

If we're over budget by 5% on a project at work there are major issues, and we're talking about thousands of dollars not billions.

The Oilers would like to know where to get themselves some of those drop-down panels to hide empty seats. No reason.

Figures. So like I said, a complete waste of money.

Blow a couple billion on a stadium in a heartbeat, but providing low income housing? Not a chance.

Taxpayer subsidization for billionaire NFL owners = capitalism.
Taxpayer subsidization for low-income housing = communism.

Duh.

But... none of your posts answer the OP's question? How cool is the stadium?

Not "Was this an efficient use of tax payer money when the city has an homeless issue which could be offset by providing low income housing in lieu of building a stadium"

So, does it look cool?

LOL why do you care so much about a city in a different country that you don't live in and likely never will?

Maybe the craziest thing is the Georgia Dome won't even make it to 30 years before it's being replaced. So it's not like they're replacing a 50 year old dump. This is a stadium that currently hosts the SEC Title Game, Final Fours, and other big events, and it needs to be replaced. And PSLs expected to be $45-50,000 per seat on the new stadium.

I like the stadium and the direction of newer dome style stadiums that have glass at the ends to let in the sun. Looks a bit overly complex but it will definitely ensure that the Falcons host the Superbowl every decade.

Maybe the hobos and transients can live in the stadium between game days? Two birds with one stone?

The thing that amazes me about NFL stadiums being tax-payer funded is that there are 8 home games during the entire season. 8 days of football (maybe 14-15 if you include pre-season and playoffs).

I don't think there are that many concerts that fill 80,000 seat arenas. I get there will be MLS here as well but still.

When will cities start providing subsidized cars for the hobos so they can drive from the dome to parks on nice days?

I care because I hope one day we can stop this nonsense. The biggest problem right now is that owners from all leagues continually blackmail governments for money. "If you don't build me a stadium I'm moving my team somewhere that will". It's time we stop accepting this.
