Trade Wings Blow Through Carolina

The Carolina Hurricanes once again addressed their defense by adding more depth to their core. Acquiring Jay Harrison from the Ottawa Senators, adding Brian Boyle from the Toronto maple Leafs while subtracting Curtis Glenncross from their roster.

The trades allow the Canes to scratch D Luke Schenn as the 7th defenceman and opening the door in the future for a possible trade to once again strengthen our core. By moving out Jay Bouwmeester who carried the complete workload for the Canes have added Ladislav Smid, Jay Harrison and scratch Luke Schenn.. the process has allow the Canes to have a mediocre core but one that is solid from 1-7 and can carry the load as a unit and not shouldered on one individual. The decision for the front office to go this route was a hard one as it’s always tough to move a top line player for depth but the loosing was a clear indication that we were never going to turn the ship around waiting to add without taking away first

Brian Boyle was brought in as a replacement for Curtis Glencross. Curtis was signed by the Canes in the offseason and has been a disappointment in scoring 7 goals in 46 games, picking up a few of those goals on the recent stretch. He’s played on what has been the ‘Canes most constant line and were a little afraid to mess with it… but looking forward the Hurricanes just wasn’t prepared to hand Curtis a 1-way deal in the offseason and while the jury is is till out if we will be willing to hand the same 1-way to Brian Boyle it’ll be at a much lower cap hit and the front office prefers what he can bring to the team and help contribute and getting Hurricanes back into the playoff picture

Next in line the ‘Canes plan to keep focusing and strengthening our D core while also lessening our goaltender numbers by 1 and sitting down with Patrice Bergeron and discussing his future with the organization or if we’ll let him pursue a Cup run elsewhere

Nice depth moves. Depth players are quite under-rated in the CPHL.
