Default Congratulations Bingo and CP

Just saw via linked in that Bingo is celebrating 15 years with Calgary Puck this month, and felt congratulations are in order. Seems like only yesterday that I was getting my Flames news off the usenet (alt.sports.hockey.nhl.clgry-flames if I recall correctly) from the likes of Alan Caldwell and Marc Ciampa, the latter of which is still feeding us regularly through CP, though under a different name.

CP has come a long way since those days. Great job Bingo. Thank you for your efforts and dedication. I hope everyone fully appreciates your undertaking and the great forum that we share today.

Cheers to Bingo, Photon, Jiri, and all the mods and contributors for taking care of us all these years. It's a long list of great people whom most of us can't even name, but appreciate none-the-less.

(And please don't go all Capgeek on us - I'm looking forward to 15 more years!)

Thanks,

DS

It's amazing how ingrained CP is in my daily routine now. Great site, and kudos to all involved.

True. I often check the news in the Off-Topic sub-forum before I open my newspapers in the morning.

It's got to be more than 15 years, no?

Come September will be the 14th year at this version of CP, but Bingo and others have been around other adaptations before that.

yeah, I think it's been longer than 15 years if you include the Fire on Ice days.

Well done!!

Ah, Usenet - The original Web 2.0.

Admittedly, the only names I recognize on Calgary puck that I knew from alt.sports.flames.whatever is Buff and Jay Random.

This site had always been a staple for me, but I must say the content on here in the past couple years has taken a big upwards turn. Lots of great contributors, and Bingo's articles and polls are always must reads. Kudos to all.

I'm with you. I used the old usenet for research when I was at U of A before most of the rest of this forum was even born. I've gone from leading edge to dinosaur, and I can't figure out when the transition happened. Reading your posts makes me happy as it reassures me there are other people of my generation still alive. (No offense!)

On CP it's always been Vox, though I didn't sign up for a few years. I was a bit of a laggard switching over from usenet, then just came here to read for a couple years before signing up and contributing. On the usenet I believe I just used my name (David), but it's so long ago now I honestly don't even remember.

What drove me here, actually, was vacationing in Maui and not being able to get the hockey scores back in 2000/2001. I'd get them off the usenet, then eventually off of CP because the usenet was becoming a &$@^* show of obnoxiousness.

What's nice is I can tell my wife that reading CP is part of my job. If the site is up, the data center is up. Since we do a lot of mission critical work for the city and province I feel it is my professional duty to validate the datacenter multiple times per day, and especially at night when most of the staff is at home. And if the site is slow, I'll here it from you folks faster than from anyone else! It also works at the office when I have CP running in the background - I can tell my staff that I'm just keeping tabs on them. It's been working for years.

Seriously, since a lot of you guys have been around a long time, and have better memories than me, I'd love to hear any shout outs to people I may have missed.

thread title could be.... Calgary Freakin' Puck!

i must say that i love this community - it is generally a great place for discussion (although at times arguments can get silly) and to get the latest flames/hockey news

thanks Bingo and all the mods

I believe it was 1997 still when Bingo set up the first Fire On Ice board. Hard to believe so many years have passed. It seems like a blink.
