Being Inappropriately Obnoxious While Watching Sports
I accept the crowd here may be against me on this one, but I'm hoping somebody else can back me up.
I find it incredibly rude to the point where it makes my blood instantly boil when some ass clown has to show off to an entire room of people that he loves sports so much that he needs to disrupt everybody else's peace by obnoxiously clapping, yelling, cheering, etc. for his team in the middle of a public area.
Last weekend I was at COP in the lounge while my kids were in their snowboarding lessons. I usually just ride the hill, but I sat this one out and just chilled out in the lounge. The lounge there is a relatively quiet place. They had a football game on the TV. A dude was sitting there yelling and clapping and hollering like a GD howler monkey for every play. It was jarring. It was annoying. It was rude. It was ridiculous.
We get it. You like sports. But read a room FFS. I don't expect silence during the super bowl, or a flames game at a sports bar or anything, but some random football team playing when you're literally the only person in a crowded room watching, why can't you keep your over-the-top enthusiasm to yourself?
And that's just an example, but it's not the only time I've seen this kind of behaviour from a certain type of trashy sports fan. Am I alone on this? Is there anybody else that would be bothered by that kind of disruption, or is it just me? I would never intentionally disrupt somebody else's enjoyment of whatever they were doing by imposing my excitement on them. It just seems so selfish.

I would like to see you do my job. I deal with loud obnoxious people all the time, you learn to shut it out. Although the guy in the back of the cruiser, drunk as hell, and pissing himself was belting out a pretty decent version of Sweet Caroline last weekend...

I generally don't like being anywhere where you have people with major ADHD and love to have the spotlight on themselves. It's aggravating more then anything. Generally people have good social intelligence, but there are always asshats who have the "look at me, look at me", attitude. Mostly I see this with casual swearing, where some people have diarrhea of the mouth and feel the need to constantly do it.
I personally feel embarrassed if I accidentally react to a play in the wrong atmosphere.
For example, if I am at a social gathering and the flames game is on in the background and we score - every now and then I have a loud 1 second cheer and clap before I realize the timing is not appropriate.
I always thought the guy you described knows he is being obnoxious but enjoys it and thinks it makes him look like a huge sports fan.
Now if it was just once on that Dez no catch call, I could see a cowboys fan being obnoxious towards that.

I'll agree there is a fine line between being obnoxious and bringing energy to watching sports. That being said, it's sports not the opera. I go to watch games in public places for the cheering from the crowds. If anything, Canadian audiences are too quiet.
Yeah it sucks being stuck with a bunch of rider fans, but I'm also super jealous of the support that team gets.

Why is this not on the internet yet? I'm kidding, just remember that guy in BC, I think it was, singing in the back of the squad car.
I usually don't agree with Sliver but I have to this time. I don't have any issues with being happy about your sports team doing well - we've gone to a pub to watch different games before and everyone is having fun and cheering and it's a great time. Hell, you should have been at the expat gathering at the Kilkenny during the last election - it got crazy noisy in there when Obama won.
But what Sliver is describing? Obnoxious "look at me, I'm an attention whore" type crap and I'm always a bit surprised someone doesn't get up and get a bit snarly about it.
You should have given him the old pretend you're going to high 5 after a play, and then move your hand at the last second,so he misses, and then walk away.
